The HR Generalist works with the HR Manager to support plant operations, ensure compliance with employment laws, and contribute to the organization’s success.
Location: Grand Rapids, MI. Salary: $50,000 - $70,000 per year. Employment type: Full-time. Seniority level: Mid-Senior level.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for manufacturing plant roles (hourly, skilled trades, administrative).
- Conduct interviews, coordinate job fairs, and collaborate with hiring managers to select candidates.
- Prepare job postings, screen resumes, facilitate onboarding and new hire orientation.
- Act as a liaison between employees and management; address concerns, conflicts, or complaints timely.
- Foster a positive work environment with open communication and engagement initiatives.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and disciplinary actions per company policies.
- Assist in coordinating and delivering training for new hires and ongoing development.
- Identify training needs and work with management to create development plans.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory training requirements in the manufacturing environment.
- Assist in the performance appraisal process; support managers in goal setting, feedback, and evaluations.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal labor laws and company policies (OSHA, EEO, FMLA).
- Maintain records related to employee data, including compensation, benefits, and personal information.
- Oversee time and attendance, overtime calculations, and labor law compliance.
- Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, retirement, PTO).
- Assist in salary and compensation analysis for internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Partner with safety teams to maintain a safe work environment and OSHA compliance.
- Assist with workplace safety initiatives and accident reporting.
- Prepare and analyze HR reports (turnover, staffing, training effectiveness) and track key HR metrics.
- File documents into employee records and prepare new hire files; process mail; complete I-9 and maintain I-9 files.
- Assist with terminations and related processes; perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-5 years of HR experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial settings.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws, HR policies, and best practices.
- Experience with recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.
- Proficient with HRIS and MS Office; strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry is a plus.
