Role Overview

As a Principal Applied Scientist on our Agentic AI Professional Services Experience team, you will serve as the foremost technical authority and thought leader in the development and deployment of agentic AI systems. This position requires exceptional expertise in deep learning, large language models, and AI agent architectures. You will help build our industry-leading Agentic AI portfolio (models, systems, and applications), set the scientific vision, drive innovation, and represent AWS's AI capabilities to senior leadership and customers, ensuring our solutions deliver transformative enterprise value.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Leadership

• Define and drive the scientific vision and roadmap for our Agentic AI professional services portfolio.
• Lead research initiatives to advance the state-of-the-art in agent-based AI systems.
• Collaborate with senior scientists to pioneer novel approaches to agent learning, reasoning, and interaction.
• Publish research at top-tier conferences and influence the scientific community.
• Evaluate emerging research and identify integration opportunities into our architectures.

Technical Excellence

• Architect multi-agent systems that understand, reason about, and execute enterprise workflows.
• Lead the design of machine learning models for agent decision-making, planning, and reasoning.
• Drive breakthroughs in LLM fine-tuning, reinforcement learning from human feedback, and agent alignment.
• Establish evaluation frameworks for agent effectiveness, safety, and impact.
• Guide technical standards and best practices organization-wide.

Customer & Business Impact

• Translate technical concepts into business value for stakeholders.
• Lead technical delivery for strategic customers.
• Design AI agent solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s with 10+ years in CS, CE, ML, or related fields.
• 8+ years building models for business applications.
• Experience with patents or publications at top conferences/journals.
• Programming experience in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.
• Expertise in AI (NLP or multi-modality), Deep Learning, LLM training, graph learning, static code analysis, or software engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building AI systems for enterprise professional services.
• Leadership in cross-functional research, engineering, and product initiatives.
• Successful collaboration with product teams to bring research to market.
• Ability to secure resources for ambitious projects.
