Overview

Position Title: Mechanic

Position Status: Full time, Non-Exempt, Union position

The mechanic is respectful of others; team orientated; flexible; friendly; ability to work in a fluid environment with the versatility to assist field personnel if necessary; possess good analytical & problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills. The mechanic is responsible for the troubleshooting, diagnostics and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment of Catholic Cemeteries. They will determine actions that prevent the least amount of impact on availability and service by a third party vendor. He/she will enhance the organization’s reputation by accepting ownership for the maintenance department; accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all deceased persons are given a dignified Christian burial if assistance is necessary.
  • The condition of all vehicles and equipment of Catholic Cemeteries by:
  • Establishing preventative maintenance schedules
  • Verifying vehicle & equipment repairs
  • Monitor usage of all vehicles and equipment
  • Recording of all maintenance & repairs.
  • If improper employee usage is detected, the Lead Foreman should be informed immediately, followed by contacting the Superintendent, and/or Management.
  • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock (without overstock); placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems,
  • Repair of hydraulic systems in various equipment.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
  • Conducts regular communication with management on the entire mechanical shop/department.
  • Assist the Director in the planning, development, and preparation of the yearly & projected corporate capital budget.
  • Assist Management with the evaluation of new equipment purchases
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs., stand and walk for extended periods of time, drive throughout the state on any given day.

Education, Training And/ Or Experience

  • High School Diploma.
  • Five years of experience.
  • Certifications in mechanic repairs are preferred but not required.
  • Working experience in gasoline & diesel engine repair & maintenance, as well as small engine equipment is required.
  • Welding experience is preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver license with clean driving record required.
  • Attention to Detail, Dependability, Thoroughness, Verbal Communication,
  • Uphold the mission and promote the ministry of Catholic Cemeteries.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports directly to the Director of Catholic Cemeteries or Operations Manager.
