Description

Standard Solar , a Brookfield Renewable Company, is a leading independent power producer focused on acquiring, developing, funding, and operating DG-scale solar energy and storage projects throughout the US. We are looking to expand our in-house legal team with an attorney experienced in preparing and negotiating agreements for the acquisition and development of DG-scale solar projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal support for distributed solar acquisition and development transactions, including community solar, C&I/behind the meter, virtual net-metered, and AC/DC coupled storage.
  2. Review, draft, and negotiate agreements such as MIPA/APAs, PPAs & VPPAs, term sheets, LOIs, and other related agreements.
  3. Lead legal aspects of acquisition and development transactions.
  4. Prepare and negotiate term sheets and LOIs for asset acquisition.
  5. Offer practical legal advice on matters related to solar project acquisition and development.
  6. Provide project-level legal support to transaction and business development teams.
  7. Advise senior management on risk management and contractual obligations.
  8. Manage outside counsel involved in transactions.
  9. Collaborate with the legal team and interface with developers, sellers, and offtake parties.
  10. Ensure consistency and clarity in transaction documentation.
  11. Report to the General Counsel and Chief Development Officer.

Minimum Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  1. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  2. Minimum of 5+ years' experience in law firms or in-house legal departments, preferably in renewable energy transactions, especially solar.
  3. Extensive experience with MIPA, strong knowledge of MIPA/APAs; PPA experience is a plus.
  4. Ability to manage multiple transactions and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and legal leadership skills.
  6. Alignment with the mission and values of Standard Solar—working together to promote clean energy.

This position can be based in Standard Solar’s headquarters in Rockville, MD, or at our offices in Los Angeles, CA (Playa District Business Campus, ), or in New York at 200 Liberty.
