Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate to join its Electrical Engineering & Software team. The successful candidate will have expertise in IP law, particularly in drafting and prosecuting patents related to electrical engineering, computer science, and software. The role offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, including wireless communication, 5G, and 6G standards. Candidates with a background in design engineering and experience with chip companies are encouraged to apply.

Location:

  • Redwood City, CA

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to electrical engineering, software, and computer science
  • Represent clients in patent litigation matters
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical teams to understand and protect innovations
  • Provide legal counsel to clients regarding intellectual property rights, including patent strategy
  • Assist in patent portfolio management and client advisories
  • Conduct patent searches and due diligence
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions and engage with the USPTO
  • Communicate complex technical matters in a clear and understandable manner

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of legal experience in IP law (Patent Prosecution and Litigation)
  • Admission to the USPTO is required
  • Experience in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Design engineering experience with chip companies is a plus
  • Experience with wireless communication technologies (5G, 6G, 3GPP standards) is preferred but not required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration required for both Associate and Patent Agent candidates
