Job Summary
#CA-DS The purpose of the position is to provide comprehensive dispensing and clinical pharmaceutical services to ambulatory patients and to other professional staff as well as overseeing pharmacy technicians and other subordinates in performing technical and clerical functions. Working in one of five outpatient pharmacies, the pharmacist ensures safe, accurate, and timely medication delivery while offering expert consultation to patients and healthcare providers. This role also includes supervising pharmacy technicians and support staff in the performance of technical and clerical functions. As part of a large, integrated pharmacy team operating 24/7, the pharmacist plays a critical role in promoting optimal medication use, delivering high-quality patient care, and supporting the department's commitment to excellence in service, education, and innovation. California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire Immunization Certification required for UC Davis 48X Outpatient Pharmacists, UC Davis Clinic Pharmacy in Davis, Staff Pharmacist 2 Float and Staff Pharmacist 2 Per Diem positions. American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience/training. Recent Outpatient Pharmacy experience working as a Registered Pharmacist (last 2 years) Experience performing QA and order verification Patient counseling experience Customer service experience Knowledge and understanding of current California Pharmacy Law and other Federal Regulation (e.g. DEA) effecting the practice of pharmacy. Working knowledge of Medi-Cal Formulary and other third- party billing systems. Accurately perform pharmacy calculations. Ability to interpret and understand physicians' orders, pharmacy, and nursing records. Current knowledge of pharmacy terminology, generic/brand names, abbreviations and drugs on current hospital formulary. Ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others, when limits of delegated authority have been reached. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of Outpatient Experience Experience working in a Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy Experience working with and directing residents, students, and health care professionals. Knowledge of Pharmacy Clinical Services Ability to oversee technicians and establish priorities of workflow Computer skills that facilitate medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
