About the Position As a Temporary Mail Courier, you will help facilitate the election process by making postal runs to retrieve mailed ballots and dropping off and picking up ballots to be scanned at the vendor. Additionally, our Temporary Mail Couriers load and unload carts of ballots at the vendor and MCTEC facilities, and operate mail-opening machinery to ensure that all mail is opened and processed. Other Requirements Must be a registered voter, or have the ability to become a registered voter, in the State of Arizona by the time of hire May be required to use a County vehicle, which would require a valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and attendance in Maricopa County's Defensive Driving Course Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire Must pass an applicable background screening Must be able to work overtime as necessary We Also Value One or more years of postal experience One or more years of professional driving experience One or more years of general office experience One or more years of warehouse experience One or more years of moderate computer use experience One or more years of election experience One or more years of customer service experience Bilingual in English and Spanish Job Contributions Pushes and/or pulls 150-pound ballot crates into the ballot processing staging area or secured ballot vault Attends postal runs to the United States Postal Service, picks up printed items from the vendor (Runbeck Elections), and drops off ballots for scanning to initiate the signature verification process Utilizes electronic mail opening machinery to open ballots in bulk prior to ballot processing; requires standing for long periods Assists other divisions of the Elections Department with daily functions and activities as needed Working Conditions Full-time/Temporary/Overtime/Holiday hours are mandatory during the election cycle Requires the ability to: Stand for extended periods; demonstrate upper extremity repetitive motion capabilities and the ability to pivot a minimum of 7 pounds; review small fonts on hard copy or computer screen; lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of 7 pounds and carry for 450 feet; push/pull a minimum of 150 pounds for 450 feet; utlize a County vehicle to travel within Maricopa County; work outdoors in high termpartures or indoors Must not engage in any political discussion May require the use of Mail Opening Machinery and Microsoft Products May require the ability to operate a box truck and pallet jack Work involves the use of crates and carts Closed-toed shoes must be worn Selection Procedure Only the most qualified candidates will be considered
