Senior Electronic Component Engineer

The Senior Electronic Component Engineer is an individual contributor who provides front-line support for the development and sustaining of electronic products and systems, and supports various projects, cross-functional teams, and departments across the organization. This position serves as the subject matter expert on electronic components, their use in the manufacturing of electronic products, and the suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers of electronic components. The role requires superior analytical, decision-making, communication, and follow-up skills, with the ability to respond quickly to a continual flow of requests, take action as required, pivot quickly with changing priorities, and maintain visibility to stakeholders and contractors worldwide. This position is full-time onsite in the Q-SYS offices in Ft Wayne, Indiana, or Boulder, Colorado. Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Provide subject matter expertise on electronic components, their use in the manufacturing of electronic products, and the suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers of electronic components. Provide analysis of electronic component datasheets, manufacturer websites and PCNs, and online databases. Research and recommend new electronic components for use in the development and sustaining of QSC products, ensuring they will be reliable, effective, and meet product standards and specifications. Define and create new QSC part numbers for electronic components as part of the New Part Request process in Agile PLM, including proactive 2nd sourcing. Create and/or process SCR, NPR, ECR, LCO, and MCO change objects in Agile PLM. Work directly with electronic component suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers, maintaining key relationships, coordinating meetings and presentations, and confirming critical component information. Manage the electronic component database in Agile PLM, including AML and component description consistency. Provide support and training for electrical design engineers on the use of Agile PLM, and on the NPR process. Participate in BOM health reviews, 2nd sourcing and cost reduction initiatives, plus EOL replacement and failure analysis efforts. Define and document electronic component engineering policies and processes. Skills and Minimum Experience Required
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus equivalent experience. 5+ years of electronic component engineering experience in a product development or manufacturing environment. Experience managing item numbers, change objects, and electronic component databases in Agile PLM or other product lifecycle management tool. Experience analyzing electronic component datasheets and manufacturer PCNs for passive and active components, including high-power components plus analog and digital ICs. Familiarity with EOL, IPC, AEC, ESD, MSL, UL, and FFF compatibility. Familiarity with PCBA manufacturing techniques related to electronic components. Familiarity with electronic component packages and critical specifications. Experience working directly with electronic component suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers. Experience with online electronic component databases Z2Data and/or Silicon Expert. Experience managing information and tracking tasks in Atlassian Confluence and Jira, or similar tools. Experience working with Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Copilot, and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to coordinate a large number of priorities, projects, complex problems, and strategic initiatives simultaneously. Superior response time and follow-up skills. Excellent communication skills in English verbal, written, and presentation. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals and teams across the organization and across the world on a daily basis using MS Teams and MS Outlook. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement, and communicate those opportunities to leadership along with recommended actions.
