Senior Cloud Migration Architect
to spearhead cloud transformation initiatives supporting the
United States Coast Guard
at C5ISC in Alexandria, VA. In this role, you will craft the strategic roadmap for migrating essential capabilities that bolster critical Coast Guard operations to a cloud infrastructure. Primary Responsibilities: Cloud Migration & Modernization:
Lead intricate migration projects from inception to execution. Assess legacy systems for cloud readiness and develop modernization strategies (e.g., containerization, microservices). Create migration methodologies that minimize disruption while ensuring smooth onboarding. Optimize the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of applications in cloud environments. Strategic Architecture & Design:
Design scalable, resilient, and secure solutions on AWS and Azure. Define cloud strategies, roadmaps, reference architectures, and technical standards. Offer guidance during architectural reviews and provide expert recommendations for technical decisions. Technical Leadership:
Act as the primary authority on the migration of legacy and on-prem systems to the cloud. Mentor and guide technical teams throughout the migration process. Advocate for DevOps practices, automation, and Infrastructure as Code. Security, Compliance & Cost Management:
Implement zero-trust security principles and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Monitor and optimize cloud expenditure through effective cost management strategies. Balance performance, security, and financial efficiency in solution design. Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into cloud solutions. Engage cross-functionally with development, operations, and security teams. Effectively present designs and roadmaps to leadership while maintaining technical documentation. Consulting & Project Management:
Align cloud solutions with business objectives and ROI goals. Manage large-scale projects using Agile/Scrum methodologies, showcasing risk and change management expertise. Support vendor negotiations, contracts, and IT service management frameworks. Basic Qualifications: Requires a BS degree with 12+ years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience; additional years can be accepted in lieu of a degree. 8+ years of hands-on cloud architecture and implementation experience. 4+ years working with both AWS and Azure platforms. 2+ years in a senior or lead architect role. Proven track record managing cloud transformation projects with budgets exceeding $1M. AWS Solutions Architect Professional and Azure Solutions Architect Expert certifications are essential. Strong expertise in designing multi-cloud and hybrid architectures, alongside cross-cloud integration and cost optimization. Extensive experience in cloud migration methodologies, including the 6 R's framework and wave-based migration planning/execution. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef). Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline design and container orchestration. A deep understanding of cloud security and compliance frameworks. Demonstrated capability to perform cloud security audits and assessments. This position necessitates candidates to obtain a Public Trust clearance and will consider up to TS/SCI. Must possess at least one of the following certifications: AWS Certified Security - Specialty, Microsoft Azure Security Engineer Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), TOGAF 9 Certified, or CISSP/CISM.
