Overview

Marten Law is seeking an Accounts Payable and Payroll Accountant who possesses a combination of skills in both accounts payable and payroll management to join our finance team. This position reports to the Controller and will be instrumental in managing and executing day-to-day operations in accounts payable and payroll. The work is primarily in the office at the Firm’s Seattle Office in downtown Seattle. This is a full-time position with exceptional benefits, a competitive salary, and a great work environment. We work throughout the United States on large-scale projects involving complex negotiations, transactions, and litigation. Our lawyers practice out of offices in Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco, California; New York; Toronto; and Idaho. Responsibilities

Accounts payable: Compiles and maintains accounts payable records; reviews and verifies calculations of incoming billings; communicates to vendors and responds to inquiries; matches invoices with purchase orders and statements; checks authorization and signatures; posts entries to accounting system; prepares 1099s, statements, and reports and processes checks; ensures AP accounts reconcile. Payroll: Coordinates with Human Resources regarding employee onboarding/offboarding timing, withholdings, benefits participation, etc., to ensure accurate payroll processing; maintains employee information necessary for payroll calculation (such as base rate, exemptions, deductions, etc.); administers processing of employee and organization’s contributions to 401k, HSA, FSA savings plans; makes determinations regarding application of wage and hour law and oversees preparation of periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions; administers processing of organization’s payroll and collects payroll data to maintain accurate payroll records; handles processing of employee status changes; analyzes payroll and employee expenses; ensures general ledger accounts are reconciled; creates ongoing month-end, quarterly, and year-end organization reports; audits payroll information for accuracy; reconciles payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions. Collaborates with HR and other stakeholders to ensure timely payroll processing and compliance. Qualifications

At least three years of experience in accounts payable and payroll functions, preferably with a professional services firm. Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Strong work ethic, professional and positive attitude; pride in work and delivering superior work product; strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to work well in a team and handle stress; proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with accounting software; LMS experience is preferred but not required. Benefits

You can expect a full-time schedule (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) with occasional after-hours work as accounting demands, such as finalizing quarterly or annual financial information.
