This is an exciting opportunity to join Medtronic's Structural Heart and Aortic operating unit to work with a dedicated team focused on the development and expansion of our new transcatheter heart valve replacement systems.
The Structural Heart and Aortic integrated operating unit offer minimally invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves—aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid—and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body’s largest artery, the aorta.

This position is in Santa Rosa, CA. within the Structural Heart and Aortic (SH&A) operating unit. We are working on-site 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.**A Day in the Life**The **Human Factors Design Engineer II** will have the opportunity to impact Human Factors deliverables across a range of pre and post commercial products. You will need experience of the theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities and limitations (perceptual, cognitive, motor, bio-mechanical, and anthropometric) and the ability to apply this knowledge to the design, definition, evaluation, launch, and use of products across the range of SH&A products.In general, the following responsibilities apply to the **Human Factors Design Engineer** **II** role.
This includes, but is not limited to the following:* Apply human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.* Translate requirements into interaction/interface design solution concepts* Design and execute tests to simulate product use for the purposes of concept selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification and formal usability validation with intended users.* Interface with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces by providing Human Factors support, including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing Human Factors tasks for projects.* Develop task analysis, use error analysis, human factors and usability-related requirements, generation of concepts (creation of physical models and prototypes), graphical (software) user interface design, usability testing, risk management, and post-launch outcomes analysis.* Identify and analyze technological problems or risks, perform theoretical human factors investigations, and develop and implement research and analysis plans.* Leading Human Factors and User Experience activities and small teams to optimize the customer’s experience using our cardiac and vascular products.**Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:*** Experience designing and evaluating software and hardware products using principles of Human Factors and Ergonomics* Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and other Human Factors experts.**Qualifications****MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:****TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME*** Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or a related technical discipline and a minimum of 2 years of technical experience OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 0 years technical experience**Nice to Have*** Experience and working knowledge of FDA regulations/ISO standards for medical devices usability* Medical device industry experience is required, as well as practical understanding of AAMI/ANSI HE75 and ANSI/AAMI/IEC 62366.* Leading design, execution, and analysis for summative validation studies.* Preparing documentation to support DHF including Use Error Analysis and Human Factors Summary Report.* Dynamic team player that can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional global teams.* Excellent communication and presentation skills.* Competent in stakeholder management.**About Medtronic**Together, we can change healthcare worldwide.
