Director, Registration & Student Records Rice University is seeking the Director, Registration & Student Records to safeguard the integrity, accuracy, and seamless functionality of the school’s academic records, calendars, and schedules. This leadership role serves as the cornerstone for all registration and records activities, ensuring the delivery of a world‑class student experience while driving strategic initiatives that elevate the academic reputation of Rice Business. The Director reports to the Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Student Experience and collaborates with stakeholders across the university to shape policies and processes that influence multiple units.

Overview The Director of Registration and Student Records oversees Rice Business Registrar activities and aligns with broader university systems and procedures. The role requires strategic judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex challenges with diplomacy and precision. The Director serves as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of excellence, compliance, and confidentiality.

Essential Functions

Develop and implement strategies to enhance registration processes, data accuracy, and overall operational efficiency.

Partner with leadership across the business school and other university departments to ensure alignment with institutional goals and policies.

Lead high‑stakes decisions involving registration policies, accreditation requirements, and university‑wide data initiatives.

Generate and create new reports for management and senior administration to support planning and process improvements.

Provide leadership and supervision to staff; oversee development, adherence, and refinement of policies, procedures, and workflows.

Ensure the accuracy, security, and confidentiality of all student records in compliance with FERPA and other regulations.

Manage academic scheduling processes, including class rosters, room assignments, and enrollment caps.

Direct the integration and optimization of registration systems and database tools to provide actionable insights.

Oversee course evaluation processes and coordinate with Analytics and Operations on data reporting.

Represent Rice Business at university committees and working groups to advocate for the school’s interests.

Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve conflicting needs while supporting the school’s and university’s missions.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree required

7+ years’ experience in a higher education environment, preferably in student records and/or registration

Demonstrated experience in records management, data management, and related fields

Experience supervising staff and delegating responsibilities

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong data concepts and database knowledge

SQL skills and experience with Oracle database tools (e.g., Tableau or similar)

Excellent customer service, confidentiality, verbal and written communication skills

Strong organizational skills, analytical/problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team; thrive in a fast-paced environment

Preferences

Master’s Degree

Experience working with graduate students

Experience in registrar roles within higher education

Experience with student information systems (Banner) and scheduling software (Ad Astra/EMS)

Workplace Rice Business primarily delivers residential classes and activities occurring almost daily between 7 am and 10 pm. A highly collaborative, on‑campus culture is valued; in‑person support is expected. Remote work options are limited.

Compensation Hiring Range: $85,000 minimum, commensurate with experience. Exempt (salaried) position; overtime is not eligible under FLSA.
