The Associate Director of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment works in a high-energy, prestigious graduate business school, the UC San Diego Rady School of Management.
This position recruits and reviews candidates for the Rady School of Management's graduate business programs. It is responsible for outreach; recruitment; tracking and monitoring outreach efforts toward prospective applicants, applicants, and admitted applicants; application file review; application assessment and admissions decision-making recommendations; admitted student yield; and recruitment event planning and implementation — locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The position requires professionalism, independent analysis skills, presentation skills, sales/promotional/marketing skills, strategic thinking and strategic planning, creativity, and rapport-building skills.
The Associate Director uses data to identify and recruit potential applicants and provides information on admissions-related issues to prospective applicants, applicants, admitted students, employers, community-based organizations, faculty and campus colleagues. The position fosters and maintains good working relationships with UCSD colleagues, the public, organizations involved in outreach recruitment, and other UC business schools, as well as representatives from other universities and UC San Diego campus graduate advisors and administrators.
This position independently reviews and/or evaluates domestic and international applications for admission into Rady School of Management graduate programs. It works as a team with other Graduate Admission professionals, interacts with the Executive Directors of each graduate program, and uses professional judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of educational processes— including educational background, career aspirations, career progression, transcripts, GPA, GMAT/GRE scores and academic achievement at domestic and international institutions— in determining whether applicants meet admission requirements. The role conveys complicated and/or sensitive information with autonomy, diplomacy, and professionalism as a representative of UC San Diego and the Rady School of Management. It interacts directly with prospective applicants, applicants, and admitted students in person at admissions/recruitment events, open houses, and via online interactions, while assessing academic preparedness for graduate business school, career progression, and alignment with the Rady School curriculum.
Available to work evenings/weekends during peak periods and due to admissions/recruitment events, open houses, etc. Some domestic travel may be expected; very rare international travel for some graduate business programs.
Qualifications
Strong experience (more than 5 years) in Admissions/Recruitment in a graduate business school, including experience recruiting for an MBA or other graduate business program, and evaluating candidates based on background, educational achievements, and professional goals.
Direct marketing/sales experience: creating content for informational materials (traditional and online), chats, texts, and emails; ability to craft accurate content promoting an educational organization.
Experience working with a professional population comprised of senior managers and leaders.
Experience independently organizing and implementing admissions/recruitment informational programs for a wide, diverse audience.
Experience planning and implementing outreach events, recruitment fairs, open houses, and online events; leadership in recruiting for onsite and/or innovative online programs.
Strong presentation skills online and in person; proven ability to deliver engaging presentations and Q&A sessions to large and small audiences.
Experience conducting individual admission evaluations/interviews and assessments (domestic and international); ability to use independent judgment to make admission decisions and recommendations.
Knowledge of admission-related technology including CRM systems; proficiency in using technology and data to execute outreach, application review, evaluation, and yield activities.
Experience with recruitment yield management and developing strategic plans to engage prospective applicants and admitted students.
Ability to develop recruitment programs and design effective materials; skill in prioritizing outreach based on yield and goals; experience developing strategies to enroll qualified graduate students.
Excellent interpersonal communication, diplomacy, tact, and collaboration.
Experience advising students, preferably in graduate education, and interacting with admitted and denied applicants.
