Overview
The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (Apostolorum Successores 177). Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description. General Summary
General Summary of Essential Purpose (Youth Ministry) : The Director of Youth Ministry Services supports the work of the Lifelong Formation Department by working collaboratively with team members, parishes, and other identified groups to provide support, formation and resources for all youth, including those from the multicultural communities, to grow in their relationship with Jesus and engage as missionary disciples in Catholic parishes. Additionally, the Director of Youth Ministry Services supervises the Assistant Director of Youth Ministry Services and ensures that all Archdiocesan youth ministry efforts extend the mission and vision of the Church as communicated by the Archbishop.
Essential Position Duties
Develop a vision and associated strategies for comprehensive youth ministry in accordance with the USCCB’s most current documents that recognize the cultural, developmental, and spiritual diversity among Catholic youth represented in the archdiocese. Provide ongoing consultation, training, formation, and general support to parish youth ministries in collaboration with other archdiocesan departments and ministries. Develop workshops, trainings, and formation opportunities for youth and young adult ministers and provide input for the Youth and Young Adult Ministry certificate program offered through Christifideles. Prepare and manage youth ministry budget ensuring effective stewardship of resources used throughout the fiscal year. Supervise the Assistant Director of Youth Ministry Services as well as seasonal workers and interns. Supervise the Cristo Rey High School student associates and manage their scheduling and formation. Oversee and moderate the Archdiocesan Youth Council and support other chancery committees, such as the Young Adult Advisory Board, to create and implement a vision for youth ministry that fits within the vision of the Lifelong Formation department. Develop and implement programs and projects to foster youth leadership development, including re-envisioning the Ascend Youth Leadership Retreat to meet the needs of today’s young people. Develop, implement, oversee, supervise and evaluate this annual event in coordination with a planning team of youth ministers and volunteers. Serve as the liaison for the Catholic LifeSaver Corps (CLC), a peer-to-peer suicide prevention initiative, by scheduling safeTALK workshops in coordination with parish staff and CLC team leaders. Secure ASIST-trained adults for each workshop and provide parishes with needed promotional materials in advance of each training. Collaborate regularly with Mental Health Ministry leaders. Develop, implement, oversee, and evaluate a new ministry internship program for youth and young adults in parishes. Facilitate cohort training retreats and events and support parish leaders to establish appropriate intern positions. Maintain an environment of inclusion, trust, and acceptance that embraces young people and families from different cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications : Primary : Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers. Be a practicing Catholic, completely faithful to the Church and the Magisterium and have a strong and disciplined prayer life. Possess a heart for the New Evangelization. Education : Master’s degree in theology, Religious Study, Youth Ministry or other related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Experience : Demonstrated successful leadership/management experience to include staff supervision, program management and budget management. Demonstrated ability to evangelize and communicate the faith. Knowledge of and experience in retreats, event planning and leadership development for youth preferred. Ability to work with people with varying ecclesial, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. Experience in supporting committees and leadership groups preferred. Other Elements : Excellent communications skills both verbal and written. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated competency in digital communications tools. Strong demonstrated competence in interpersonal and public relations skills including the ability to work collaboratively with Chancery staff, school personnel, pastors, and parish ministers. Ability to work in the evenings and at weekends. Ability to provide own transportation, must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license
