Overview
Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of
Marketing and Memberships Manager . This role is a member of the administrative staff and participates in planning and executing Departmental Marketing initiatives, with responsibilities to draw attention to productions and expand our audience. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a performing arts organization or comparable experience. The organization has approximately 4,000 members with various package types and is focused on anti-oppressive and anti-racist decision-making. The Marketing and Memberships Manager leads our membership offerings evolution, supports single ticketing strategies, and oversees data reporting and analysis for sales and audience trends. The position also serves as the Tessitura expert for the Marketing and Communications Department and may arrange internal trainings as needed. Experience with JCA’s Revenue Management Application Vivian is a plus. Responsibilities
Membership Campaign Promotion Strategy & Execution Coordinate, plan and execute year-round marketing campaigns for all areas of subscription/membership (acquisition, renewal, flex, virtual, etc.). Develop multi-channel messaging (copywriting and content direction for direct mailers, emails, website, events, audience services talking points, SMS campaigns, etc.). Drive cultivation plans and evolve Steppenwolf’s multi-play packages and patron loyalty programs. Coordinate and plan campaigns for annual Holiday membership, gift card, or package offering. Plan the annual Season Preview event and other member events. Serve as point-person with external consultants and collaborate with the Audience Services team on member communications. Execute list trade management and list research; conduct ROI analysis on responses from segments. Participate in the Tessitura task force and coordinate with the database administrator to capitalize on CRM customization opportunities. Assist with cross-departmental activities as needed. Advertising For Memberships, Single Tickets And Other Promotional Campaigns Provide strategic leadership for advertising around single ticket, membership and branding campaigns. Lead planning and execution of campaigns; evaluate offers from ad reps and align with organizational goals. Oversee ad trafficking and ensure timely delivery of assets; manage cross-functional workflows. Direct development and copywriting of promotional assets; ensure brand consistency and approve deliverables. Analyze campaign performance data and provide strategic reporting to leadership. Identify emerging platforms and partnerships to expand reach and audience engagement. Monitor sales and work to maximize single ticket revenue; develop tactics to increase new-to-file ticket buyers. Build relationships with community partners; utilize Tessitura for patron communications and sales; build extractions and lists for targeted communications; pull patron analytics. Reporting & Analysis Track and disseminate attendance and ticket sales data (e.g., daily/weekly sales, attendance reports, sales curves). Provide analysis and recommendations on revenue goals, sales benchmarks, and forecasting. Set up and test promo codes and report on performance; share institutional trend analyses and assist other departments with reporting needs. Participate on internal pricing and inventory management teams; support related research projects. Digital Marketing Support steppenwolf.org management and organization-wide email communications. Identify website needs, perform QA testing, and assist with the transition to a new site. Maintain content in the CMS; generate membership and event pages; support email/calendar planning. Execute best practices for campaign communications and remarketing (abandons) via email platforms; align web pages and emails with brand voice. Team Management Provide leadership and support to the Marketing team; manage Membership Campaigns in project tools; oversee budgets and materials. Maintain lobby materials, on-site posters, and distribution of collateral; manage staff and interns as needed. Maintain departmental archives; supervise Marketing Assistant and Intern; ensure budgets are adhered to. Provide ongoing department support (scheduling, archives, tasks as needed). Qualifications Minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing at a professional performing arts institution or equivalent. Experience with Tessitura (or other CRMs) and JCA’s Revenue Management Application Vivian is a plus. Strong data management and accuracy; polished presentation of sales and campaign information. Familiarity with membership or subscription promotion and industry trends; interest in arts and culture. Self-starter with passion for marketing, advertising and analytics; excellent project management and time management skills; detail-oriented and deadline-driven. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication; strong collaboration and teamwork; knowledge of Chicago theatre community is a plus. Compensation
Salary range: $61,472–$67,620 with a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, ViSion, transit benefits, retirement plan and paid time off (vacation, personal days, sick leave, holidays, and cultural observances).
