Overview
The Specialist, Public Relations will promote Fifth Third Bank’s Consumer Bank strategies and leadership and protect and defend the Bank’s reputation. This role focuses on proactive and reactive media relations and storytelling across consumer product PR, lending, and retail banking; crisis and issues preparedness and management; thought leadership; and special projects. We are looking for a communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, complex corporate environment with a collaborative mindset, strong writing skills, and a passion for integrated campaigns across traditional and new media that engage customers, employees, and the media. Responsible for risk by following policies, raising concerns when needed, and acting in the best interests of customers and colleagues. Within the Bank's risk appetite, identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report risks of all types.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategic external communications plans for Fifth Third’s Consumer Bank, including consumer products, retail, and lending lines of business. Balance strategy and execution to deliver PR solutions that elevate the Consumer Bank. Serve as a company spokesperson and engage directly with the media on proactive, reactive, and crisis response. Proactive media relations: identify opportunities to highlight the Consumer Bank’s products, strategy, and leadership with earned media coverage across the Bank’s footprint; build a library of customer stories to increase local coverage; create evergreen pitches to sustain consumer coverage. Reactive media relations: manage inquiries to protect the Consumer Bank’s reputation across the footprint. Crisis communications: prepare materials and implement strategies to manage crises, offering recommendations and solutions. Build and maintain relationships with reporters across top-tier, trade, and local publications; manage online, print, and broadcast media relationships. Plan, edit, and create content for external channels (press releases, pitches, talking points, leadership presentations, video scripts, etc.). Develop creative campaigns that integrate social media, video, and marketing; collaborate cross-functionally to align with business goals. Develop and execute thought leadership strategies, including executive visibility and expert positioning across media and industry platforms. Collaborate on an award strategy for Consumer Bank leaders; prepare and submit award submissions. Manage PR support for key Consumer Bank events (planning, messaging, media outreach, on-site coordination). Review and analyze metrics to identify trends and inform recommendations. Build and maintain a network of cross-functional colleagues across the Bank. Incorporate new technology and best practices to increase impact and efficiency.
Minimum Knowledge & Skills Required
Bachelors’ degree required. Experience in banking/financial services strongly preferred. 2+ years of professional experience in public relations (agency or in-house). Proven media relations experience with strong storytelling, writing, and editing skills for original and optimized content. Experience managing social media as part of integrated PR campaigns. Ability to work independently and lead projects from inception to execution. Executive presence with ability to gain the respect of internal partners. Creative thinker with a bias for action and sound judgment; strategic problem solver who anticipates obstacles and designs solutions. Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment; highly flexible and capable of mobilizing cross-functional teams. Innovative, organized, and self-motivated with strong communication to internal and external stakeholders.
Compensation And Benefits
Public Relations Specialist — Total Base Pay Range 53,400.00 - 109,500.00 USD Annual. The base salary reflects the pay grade range across the U.S. Individual salaries vary by role, experience, education, and location.
