Bond Vet is on a mission to strengthen the human-animal bond through better pet care. Our clinics are designed to be warm and friendly while leveraging innovative systems. Our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Student Extern program provides a hands-on clinical experience to support growth during the clinical years of veterinary school. You will be immersed in the daily operations of cutting-edge veterinary clinics and advance your skills through a program tailored to your interests. You must be enrolled in vet school to apply. Our medical and clinical teams curate a diverse learning experience with exposure to urgent care cases and routine wellness scenarios. You will receive mentorship from Bond Vet doctors.

Responsibilities outlined below reflect typical extern activities and are performed under supervision.

Responsibilities

Appointments/Client Communication: Interact with pet parents, observe treatment plan development and estimate creation, review medical records and patient history, perform physical exams. Treatments: Assist treatment team with medications, SQ/IV fluids under direct supervision of an LVT or DVM. Procedures/Surgeries: Place urinary catheters in male dogs under supervision, draw blood from Cephalic/Saphenous veins under nurse supervision, assist with ultrasound use, scrub in and assist procedures under the supervising doctor. Laboratory Tests: Observe sample preparation for reference testing, prepare and review ear cytology and blood smear samples. Qualifications

Currently enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of an AVMA-accredited DVM program Willingness to learn, collaborative spirit, and ability to work independently and as part of a team Uphold confidentiality standards and possess effective communication skills Physical capability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform bending, crouching, squatting, and carrying equipment Provide proof of medical insurance, rabies vaccine/titer, tetanus vaccine, and a recent TB test prior to starting Time Commitment

Externships are a minimum of two weeks and up to three weeks, based on school requirements Schedule is based on school requirements and provided before the first day Weekend hours may be required based on school requirements and supervising doctors’ schedules Clinics operate with standard regional hours; no overnight boarding is offered How to Apply

Externship applications are accepted throughout the year. Due to high demand, apply at least one year in advance of your expected rotation. Submission should include: Resume Three sets of available dates Any school requirements, policies, or forms regarding externships Note: This externship is for credit and you must arrange your own accommodation and transportation.
