About My Density Matters
My Density Matters is a 4 ½ year old nonprofit organization located in Lake Zurich, IL, with the mission to empower women to find out their breast density, understand their screening options, and take charge of their breast cancer screening. With a growing national footprint, we are poised for strategic scaling and increased impact. We are proud of the programs and systems we’ve built — and now seek a full-time Chief Operating Officer (COO) who can help us take them to the next level. Position Summary
This new number-two position will serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and lead the internal operations of the organization. This role is ideal for someone excited to take what we’ve built and expand, strengthen, and scale it to reach even more women. The COO will bring a process-oriented operational excellence while also having the vision and initiative to add and evolve programs that advance the mission. This person must be capable of growing with the organization, managing all staff and contractors, and adapting to new levels of complexity and opportunity as My Density Matters continues to expand its reach and impact. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Operations
Lead the implementation and enhancement of systems and processes that improve organizational effectiveness Build on existing infrastructure to prepare for the next phase of growth Monitor and manage progress of major programs, partnerships, community events, and initiatives
Program Growth & Innovation
Expand and improve current programs while identifying and launching new mission-aligned initiatives Work with the CEO to explore innovative ways to reach more women with education, tools, and resources Ensure all programs are delivered efficiently and with measurable impact
Financial & Administrative Oversight
Manage budgeting and financial operations in collaboration with the CEO, Treasurer, and bookkeeper Maintain compliance with nonprofit regulations and reporting standards Support grant performance and financial tracking
Team & Contractor Management
Manage part-time staff and independent contractors across multiple functions Foster a high-performing, mission-aligned team culture Coordinate internal communications, task management, and accountability systems
Technology & Infrastructure
Optimize use of tech tools and systems (CRM, cloud storage, project management, etc.) Oversee internal reporting, data collection, and impact evaluation
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in nonprofit management, operations, and leadership roles Track record of building and improving systems and scaling mission-driven programs Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to anticipate needs, act decisively, and lead growth Strong organizational, financial, and project management skills/expertise - knowledge of QuickBooks much preferred Passion for women’s health, breast cancer awareness, or public health is a must Comfortable working in a nimble, collaborative environment with a lean team Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and present effectively both live and virtually Savvy with tech and media marketing - must be Microsoft and Google Suite proficient Collaborative, flexible, innovative, with a growth mindset Location
Chicagoland based Work-from-home with mandatory in-person weekly meetings and event attendance Some local and rare nation-wide travel required Salary Range and Benefits
Salary range: $80,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications No benefits provided except for paid holidays, paid time off, social security, and workers comp Reports to
