No Position Purpose:
The Director for Research Integrity and Security oversees the research-related compliance areas described below in close cooperation with all internal and external stakeholders. The Director establishes the necessary policies and procedures and administers the relevant programs to ensure compliance in those areas.
Research Security Leadership
- As the designed Director of Dartmouth’s Research Security Program, establishes, revises, and oversees compliance with a research security program for Dartmouth that meets all federal requirements for foreign travel security, research security training, cybersecurity, foreign influence reporting, and export control training. Develops and oversees policies and programs as needed to address faculty and staff training requirements in these areas. Works with institutional stakeholders to monitor and support international travel for compliance. Monitors developments related to research security and addresses emerging requirements and concerns.
Conflict of Interest (COI) Management and Compliance
- Serves as the designated institutional official for COI oversight and management. Guides the COI Committee, oversees COI compliance and reporting with OSP, oversees COI training, maintains official records, provides guidance on commercial activities in Dartmouth space, and interprets federal and institutional policies on COI in research. Oversees COI online disclosure system (COI Rapport).
Oversight of Ethical Research Practices
- Identifies and supports best practices in research integrity campus-wide. Oversees required researcher training and provides training in research ethics and responsible conduct of research. Leads institutional response to allegations of research misconduct, working with faculty panels to pursue inquiries and investigations per federal regulations and Dartmouth policy.
Policy Initiatives
- Leads research-related policy initiatives. Advises the Vice Provost for Research on administration of research-related compliance issues and on legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures. Works with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on regulatory and policy issues. Consults with the Council on Sponsored Activities and maintains official institutional records of training programs. Oversees development and maintenance of the Research Integrity website.
Required Qualifications - Education and Years of Experience:
Masters or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Five years of experience working with faculty and senior administrators on research compliance issues, or the equivalent
Proven ability to comprehend and apply federal regulations
Ability to handle highly sensitive information with the utmost discretion
Knowledge of legal, social, ethical issues surrounding research compliance matters
Creative thinking, analytical skills, and ability to solve complex cases in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders
Ability to apply Dartmouth policies related to research compliance using legal, social, and ethical standards
Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex information to diverse constituents
Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines
Commitment to diversity and serving a diverse community
Preferred Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent strongly preferred
Fully relevant experience in research administration in higher education or healthcare strongly preferred
