Financial Aid Counselor & Scholarship Coordinator Posting #: 5375 Location: San Diego Position Status: Full-time regular Position Type: Administrator, Office of Financial Aid Posting Title & Department: 5375 Department Description: The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) is responsible for the awarding of Federal, State, and Institutional financial aid to Undergraduate and Graduate students at the University of San Diego, and for maintaining compliance to ensure proper delivery of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, work-study, and loans. The OFA determines student eligibility using FAFSA, the CA Dream Act Application, and the USD Dream Act Application. USD serves 76% of students with some type of financial aid. The Financial Aid Counselor & Scholarship Coordinator will: Coordinate awards of USD Endowed & Restricted Scholarships Process private/outside scholarships Counsel and advise on financial aid matters Process financial aid files Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinate Banner Fund Code requests when a new Endowed/Pooled or Annual/Restricted/Spendable account is opened Serve as a resource for Development Officers on campus when establishing new scholarships Select and award USD endowed and annual scholarships to students according to donors’ criteria, coordinating information from Workday and USD Development, and using technical knowledge of USD’s computer system and award process Determine appropriate scholarship awards for students whose appeals for additional funds have been approved Interact with academic departments to resolve issues regarding different types of student awards using professional judgment Process all external scholarships from private sources adhering to donor specifications and Federal regulations Maintain regular interface/communication with the Office of Development and with Accounting Process departmental/direct awards when a re-evaluation is needed, including USD Work Service Awards and various scholarships Coordinate and award Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange Scholarships for USD students across terms Application and File Processing: Determine student financial aid eligibility based on Federal Methodology and USD guidelines using professional judgment Process corrections through ANA/INAS and determine new need/eligibility Assemble financial aid packages adhering to guidelines; identify exceptions as needed Perform re-evaluation of packages Counsel students and parents with sensitivity on complex financial aid/personal matters Provide accurate, prompt information and excellent customer service as part of the Financial Aid Counselor of the Day rotation (primarily by phone and email, with occasional in-person meetings) Serve as liaison with other USD offices and partner offices to assist families with questions Other: Represent USD by presenting on Financial Aid at fairs and forums Support office policy development and changes to packaging and processing guidelines Attend state/federal training and conferences related to financial aid and scholarships Sit on university committees relevant to Financial Aid issues Complete Financial Needs Analysis forms for outside scholarship donors as needed Train, supervise, and evaluate two full-time staff members Background check:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree Four years full-time experience in financial aid Performance Expectations – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of need analysis and student aid High degree of mathematical accuracy Effective oral and written communication skills Effective organizational skills Ability to make independent and difficult decisions Ability to adapt to changing environments Capacity to listen and respond with knowledge to student and parent situations Extensive knowledge of Title IV Regulations Demonstrated supervisory skills Willingness to work additional hours during peak processing times Public speaking skills Salary and Benefits:
