Consultant Psychiatrist - Avocet Ward Adult Inpatients
The closing date is 14 October 2025 Consultant Psychiatrist - Male Adult Inpatients, based at St Mary's Hospital in Kettering, Northamptonshire Avocet ward is a 16 bedded male only inpatient ward and this post will require assessment and management of a wide range of psychiatric presentations. RC/AC status and section 12 required for this role. We are offering a £40,000 welcome bonus to the successful candidate, paid over the course of your first two years in post. Main duties of the job
The ward takes direct new admissions of a range of presentations. You will be supported in this role by range of junior doctors ( FY2 and GPVTS) and it is expected you will have regular dialogue with the two consultant psychiatrists on other two adult inpatient wards onsite. The Welland centre is a modern stand alone 4 ward psychiatric inpatient unit and is staffed by a MDT including nursing staff, occupational therapists and psychologists. Cross cover will be provided by both inpatient and outpatient consultant colleagues on a rotational basis as is the system currently. About us

Experience and Knowledge
Full GMC Registration On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or eligible for inclusion within six months. Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act Additional Postgraduate Qualifications Publication of original research Management training Behaviours and Values
In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement Ability to work independently as well as part of a MDT Able to form a good working relationship with the peer group Willingness to undertake training and CPD in areas appropriate to this post Ability to work under pressure Willingness to participate in in-house training Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels. Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals Ability to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA Post holder will need to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner. An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation Disclosure and Barring Service Check
