GLOBAL TRADE SUPPLY SALES MANAGER
The GTS Sales Manager in the Global Trade & Supply Chain Finance ("GTS") group is responsible for the origination, structuring, and execution of traditional trade, structured trade, and supply chain finance solutions for clients. Provide expert advice to clients and internal relationship managers across all lines of business about GTS products and services. Identify, pitch, and close appropriate strategies to clients. Manage transactions through sales and operational processes to ensure seamless execution for clients. Maintain ongoing client relationships and proactively identify opportunities that increase revenues and relationship profitability, while mitigating risk and delivering an excellent client experience. Proactively seek and attract new client relationships in collaboration with internal relationship managers. End-to-end product ownership and accountability. GTS is a business unit within City National Bank's Capital Markets division (alongside Loan Syndications, Foreign Exchange Sales, Interest Rate Risk Management Sales, Global Markets Trading & Risk, and Business Management).
What will you do?
New business development: Originate new prospective trade and supply chain finance clients and related opportunities in collaboration with relationship managers across bank lines of business. Develop prospect lists, attend pipeline meetings, review portfolios and existing client lists, and utilize internal data sources to identify opportunities. Responsible for client and revenue growth within the region.
Deepen existing client relationships and profitability: Maintain ongoing client relationships, propose additional trade and supply chain solutions, and identify cross-sell opportunities with internal partners (e.g., other credit types, deposits).
Sales and structuring: Structure client-suitable, appropriately priced and profitable transactions. Develop pitch materials and term sheets. Present strategies to clients. Serve as a structuring expert to support junior and other sales colleagues.
Strategy: Develop and execute an Eastern market growth strategy for trade and supply chain, including direct sales, participation channels, and new product opportunities.
Credit process collaboration: Act as primary liaison between 1LOD credit underwriting and credit administration to manage the credit process efficiently. Drive accuracy and timely approvals, respond to memos and approval requests, structure terms, and build trust with credit administration through product expertise.
Documentation negotiation: Lead negotiation of legal and other documentation (credit agreements, intercreditor agreements, receivables purchase agreements, trade documentation, UCCs, etc.). Ensure accuracy, completeness, and market provisions to protect the bank.
End-to-end product ownership: Understand all internal touchpoints for trade and supply chain products, including technical and operational aspects, as well as KYC/onboarding, funding, risk limits, portfolio management, risk reporting, escalations, etc.
Risk management: Proactively manage transactional, operational, credit, counterparty, market, regulatory, and compliance risks. Identify process gaps and remediation needs, and engage with product managers and risk partners.
Process improvement: Work with front, middle, and back office teams to improve processes, provide thought leadership on improvements, and advise on scaling solutions.
Product opportunities and strategic initiatives: Identify new product opportunities, origination channels, technology enhancements, and support the execution of strategic initiatives.
Relationship and collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with support units such as business management, underwriting, operations, credit administration, risk, legal, and compliance.
Leadership and culture: Foster a positive, collaborative environment, focus on training and mentoring colleagues locally and nationally.
Financial planning: Contribute to GTS and Capital Markets financial plans and meet or exceed individual and team sales goals.
What do you need to succeed Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Minimum of 10 years of experience in international trade and/or supply chain finance
Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and/or corporate banking
Additional Qualifications
Deep understanding of trade and supply chain products and risks, including standby and commercial letters of credit, documentary collections, banker's acceptances, EXIM programs, trade credit insurance/ECA programs, and supply chain finance programs (receivables discounting, payables financing).
Strong understanding of global and domestic markets, competition, macroeconomics, and regulatory dynamics; ability to communicate insights clearly.
Strong structuring, underwriting, and risk management skills; completion of formal bank credit training or equivalent experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills; strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Independent decision maker with proactive problem-solving, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and in teams in a collaborative environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort with technology; knowledge of trade and supply chain finance platforms.
What’s in it for you? Compensation
Starting base salary: 140,389 - 200,552 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
