Departmental Overview Data Science Undergraduate Studies (DSUS) offers academic, cocurricular, and enrichment programs (including the Data Science major and minor) with a broad impact across UC Berkeley and beyond. DSUS emphasizes deep technical knowledge, applying data science in a chosen field, and understanding the social, human, and ethical implications of data collection, analysis, and use. The program prepares graduates to address challenges from industry shifts to education and disaster recovery. DSUS is part of the College of Computing, Data Science and Society (CDSS), which aims to develop ethics‑oriented, accessible curricula and to educate a diverse student body in data science, computing, and statistics, with a focus on equality, equity, and opportunity in society. The Instructional Support Coordinator is a pivotal operational role within DSUS, reporting to the Director of Advising and Instructional Support. This role builds sustainable systems and processes to improve support for faculty, course staff (ASEs) and students, covering course management, course technology support, policy compliance, and related activities. It focuses on supporting faculty and academic courses administered by DSUS and various co‑curricular and enrichment programs, including scheduling, logistics, and policy evolution in response to campus policy and budget changes. The role involves strategic planning and implementation for approximately 15 courses with about 5,000 students per semester, including coordinating course materials, office hours, tutoring, staff selection support, and room reservations. It also supports co‑curricular and enrichment programs for Berkeley students, visiting students, and high school participants (e.g., Data Scholars, BUDS, Tuskegee/Berkeley partnership). The role shapes instructional policies as the Data Science instructional model evolves. Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: 7/27/25 — Open until filled Responsibilities 20% Faculty Support:

Responds to faculty requests for resources including supplies, software, memberships, etc. Under guidance from the Director of Instructional Support, administers course funds and processes purchase orders/reimbursements for instructional expenses. Coordinates with campus Copy Center and facilities manager to ensure access to photocopy and scanning services for large‑scale class needs. Plans unit‑wide faculty meetings including scheduling and catering. Maintains instructor communication channels by updating email list‑serves and keeps instructor hub website updated with policy changes.

20% Course Support:

For a limited number of courses, provides support with DSP accommodations, proctoring, exam seating, student requests for exceptions, and academic misconduct.

20% Academic Programs Coordination:

Provides logistical and administrative support for the Data Scholars Program, Berkeley Unboxing Data Science (BUDS) Program and Tuskegee Scholars Program, including scheduling, planning events, coordinating admissions applications and selections, and student communication. Coordinates academic scheduling and student enrollment in courses associated with these programs. Serves as the first point of contact for student, parent, staff and faculty inquiries. Maintains program data and supports program evaluation and assessment.

20% Supplemental Scheduling and Enrollment:

Drafts office hours and tutoring schedules each term based on course listings, enrollment trends, and staff availability. Independently obtains classrooms for office hours, tutoring and exams, considering DSP accommodations, instructor preferences, equipment and facility needs, and campus policies. Consults with Campus Scheduling Office and instructors on classroom issues and advises on options. Acts as back‑up scheduler and enrollment manager. Assists with supplemental enrollment programs for campus visitors (e.g., Concurrent Enrollment).

Instructional Facilities Management:

Manages instructional facilities, including equipment maintenance, inventory, supplies, and setup; ensures appropriate furniture and access. Develops space‑use policies and communicates guidelines to stakeholders. Serves on safety committee and coordinates with building management to resolve safety concerns.

10% Academic Student Employee Hiring:

Provides limited assistance with processing hiring requests for graduate student instructors (including Teaching Assistants), tutors and readers; creates position numbers and funding entries.

5% General Administrative Support:

Supports unit events (scheduling, room reservations, catering) and processes purchasing and reimbursements for faculty and staff.

5% Professional development Required Qualifications Knowledge of common University‑specific computer application programs. Knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives. Knowledge of department and school/college general and major course requirements. Interpersonal skills to work with department senior management, faculty, and students. Ability in problem identification, reasoning, and analysis to identify trends. Ability to find solutions to conflicting situations. Bachelor\'s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. California law requires UC Berkeley to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and to post the range. The posted range reflects factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, and internal equity. The budgeted salary range is $26.91/hr ($56,200 annually) to $36.78/hr ($76,800 annually). Conviction History Background This is a designated position requiring fingerprinting and a background check due to the nature of the job responsibilities.
