The Opportunity We're seeking a Retention Marketing Manager to elevate customer engagement, drive growth, and strengthen retention through strategic, data-driven marketing communications. This is a hybrid position based in San Diego, CA, working on-site three days per week and reporting to the Vice President of Ecommerce & Marketing.
Position Summary The Retention Marketing Manager will plan, create, and execute marketing campaigns across email, SMS, and loyalty/retention programs to increase engagement, reactivation, and Customer Lifetime Value (CLV). Using first-party customer data, you will build segmented campaigns and automated workflows, blending content creation, data analysis, and optimization to guide customers through every stage of the journey.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute engaging email and SMS campaigns that support customer loyalty and business objectives
Segment and analyze first-party customer data to create personalized experiences and automated journeys
Own traffic, order, and conversion goals for email, SMS, and retention campaigns
Build and maintain an annual lifecycle marketing calendar, including promotions, launches, and loyalty initiatives
Create and manage an A/B testing roadmap to optimize messaging, design, and timing
Collaborate with designers to produce compelling templates and write high-impact copy
Grow and integrate loyalty and referral programs into ongoing communications
Monitor and report on campaign performance, delivering actionable insights and monthly updates
Coordinate SMS communications with outside agencies and manage customer responses
Stay current with email marketing trends, compliance requirements, and emerging best practices
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred, or 5–7 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
3–5+ years of email, lifecycle, or loyalty/retention marketing experience
Proficiency with email marketing platforms and CRM tools (Klaviyo strongly preferred)
Strong copywriting and content creation skills with a keen eye for design
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of email marketing regulations (CAN-SPAM, GDPR); HTML/CSS skills a plus
