Overview

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek exceptional board certified/eligible anesthesiologists to join our elite team within the Department of Anesthesiology. Positions can be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

Position Overview

The primary duties are providing perioperative care at the University Hospital, The James Comprehensive Cancer Hospital on the main campus, and expanding outpatient surgical centers. The department emphasizes close collaboration as part of a diverse and inclusive team. Leadership opportunities are available for qualified candidates. Department/Division Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology consists of 128 physicians, 103 CRNA/CAA’s, 10 clinician scientists, 80 residents, 9 fellows, anesthesia technicians, and 13 administrative support staff. It comprises six academic divisions: Critical Care, Pain, Cardiothoracic, OB, Ambulatory, and General Anesthesia. The department provides comprehensive anesthesia services across the health system, including off-site and regional locations. It is heavily invested in teaching and training, offering four ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care anesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, pain medicine and regional anesthesiology, as well as additional fellowships in neuroanesthesiology and Executive Leadership and Business in Anesthesiology. An additional ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology is offered in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Requirements

MD or DO Successful completion of an accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology Eligible for an Ohio Medical License H-1b sponsorship available for qualified candidates. J-1 waiver sponsorship not available.

Faculty Definitions

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank)

- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. They will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree. Clinical faculty are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years, with potential for renewal. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care and may include teaching and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank)

- Persons with titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank)

- Persons with titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. They have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. They are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years, with a principal focus on research.

The Wexner Medical Center

The Wexner Medical Center comprises The Ohio State University Health System, the College of Medicine, the Health Sciences Library, and the Faculty Group Practice. It is committed to providing world-class care and has earned multiple national rankings in specialties. The new hospital tower, opening in 2026, will expand capacity and enhance campus integration with OSUCCC – James.

Facilities include 820 private rooms, enhanced connections between inpatient and outpatient services, extensive terrace and green space, additional beds, neonatal ICU capacity, and state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment, and inpatient care areas.
