Responsibilities

Compass Intervention Center (a UHS facility) is seeking a dynamic and talented Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO assists the CEO in managing the operations of Compass Intervention Center. The COO provides recommendations and guidance to the Leadership Team, sets objectives, develops plans and directs activities of assigned departments/areas of responsibility. The COO plays a vital role in the strategic and long-term planning of the Hospital. As a member of the Senior Management Team, this position ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, programs and services consistent with the Hospital’s mission and vision. This includes analysis, reporting and consultation to support the goals and objectives of the Hospital as well as managing and monitoring budgets and productivity improvements in all departments. Develop and establish operational and departmental policies consistent with the overall corporate and Hospital policies, objectives and professional standards and ensure adequate execution. Consistently evaluate the results of overall operations and periodically report these results to the CEO. Coordinate with hospital leadership and Human Resources to design, evaluate, plan, present, and review educational programs to meet orientation, in-service education, and continuing education of hospital personnel. Coordinate and train existing employees on new policies and procedures with assistance from department heads. Present a yearly plan for staff development based on identified learning needs of personnel, licensing, OSHA, CMS and TJC standards. Conduct learning needs assessments, rounds on patient care units, interact with all departments, and serve on committees to identify learning needs. Review journal articles and make recommendations to the CEO on evidence-based practices to consider for implementation and distribute to appropriate departments. Collaborate with staff on all units to provide education and information around quality initiatives, support for department leadership in meeting PI goals, and ensure deficiencies identified through Performance Improvement analyses are addressed with corrective actions. Collect, coordinate and maintain informational reports from all departments and committees as outlined in the PI Plan. Serve as the facility’s Compliance Officer. Ensure the hospital environment is safe, clean, and well organized. Make recommendations for resources and space, submit repair and equipment requests, conduct quarterly safety rounds, and coordinate offices for efficiency. Maintain knowledge of Joint Commission and CMS standards and act as internal expert. Liaise during surveys and oversee corrective actions; assign tasks to department managers to support regulatory compliance. Review and analyze root causes, patterns, or trends in data, inform management, and help implement corrective actions and performance improvement processes. Provide ongoing support in performance improvement initiatives and develop performance indicators at the departmental level; foster a facility-wide team effort to meet PI goals. Play an active role in developing and executing the Hospital’s strategic plan. Participate in legislation at the state and federal level affecting the Hospital and the mental health field; serve as an administrative representative at community meetings as needed. Participate in budget development; review operational costs and opportunities for cost control, new operations and growth opportunities. Assist with administrative and contractual support of Community Mental Health contracts. Plan and develop work assignments and special projects; participate in daily operations meetings and various committees; chair the Patient Safety Council and PI Committee; attend additional meetings as requested by the CEO. Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to render optimal services for patients and staff. Support the CEO in retention, culture improvement, and positive reputation management; lead by example. Foster internal communications by attending hospital-wide committees, town halls, and mandatory trainings as required. Complete other duties as assigned, including supervising other departments as indicated/assigned. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business, Social Work or Psychology preferred. Current and valid license in the State of TN as a RN, LMSW, LCSW, LSW, LPC or Licensed Psychologist preferred. A minimum of five to ten years of progressive senior leadership experience in a hospital or related setting required. Experience in data aggregation, interpretation, analysis and process improvement; including handling patient information and incident data at the organizational level. Thorough knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMMS, DHHS) required. Knowledge of instructional skills, group dynamics, and adult education techniques. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Benefits
