This position is responsible for all production-related activities and oversees the production department, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the Bayport, TX chemical facility.
The production staff report to this role, which ensures assets operate within regulatory constraints to meet production goals and product quality targets. The role leads specific OEE and Process Safety initiatives and provides technical guidance in root cause investigations.
This position influences the operation of process equipment and chemistry at the site, communicates effectively, and provides reports to management and stakeholders.
The role involves monthly performance analysis, identifying opportunities, driving continuous improvement, and evaluating scientific methods and strategies to achieve plant goals.
The Production Manager ensures timely month-end inventory closing, guides production and process issues, manages raw material procurement, and is responsible for multiple cost centers related to production activities.
Daily interaction with engineers, production staff, and maintenance teams is required. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to lead cross-functional teams. The candidate should work independently on multiple projects and have 10+ years of chemical manufacturing experience.
This position manages, trains, and develops production staff and supervises teams using machinery or equipment for manufacturing, packaging, and other production line steps.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical guidance, management, mentoring, and development of production staff.
- Support OEE improvement projects, develop project scope, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Ensure effective training for personnel on equipment or procedural changes.
- Support safety and environmental initiatives, leading by example.
- Drive productivity improvements through process and operator training enhancements.
- Conduct failure analysis, recommend repairs, and consider economic and availability risks.
- Ensure product quality, troubleshoot issues, investigate complaints, and implement solutions.
- Manage process safety compliance, report on MOC status, and support process improvements and new product launches.
- Provide coverage for the Assistant Production Manager as needed.
- Control the operating budget and oversee production cost centers and OEE reporting.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering (BS ChE) with at least 10 years of chemical manufacturing experience.
- Strong planning, leadership, organization, and negotiation skills.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing teams.
- Oversee raw material procurement and inventory management.
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate work teams.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to solve technical challenges and optimize processes.
- Proficiency with data historians and trending software such as PHD, Infoplus.21, or Parcview.
