Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care utilizing the Indian Health Service supplied facilities; equipment and support services
  • Respond to rapidly changing and unexpected needs for temporary coverage within a service unit.
  • Advise the Clinical Director, Dental Supervisor, or designated representative of any problem encountered, in connection with meeting the patient care needs.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities that ensure quality patient care as well as efficient use of hospital resources. These activities may include, but not limited to, chart review and discussion with the Clinical Director or designee.
  • Develop a working understanding of the Joint Commission standards, the Centers for Disease Control guidelines and Association of Infection Control guidelines.
  • Advise on or administer and perform educational and therapeutic preventive periodontal services in the dental clinic through personal contact with patients and staff.
  • Provide routine dental prophylaxis in the dental clinic when called upon to do so.
  • Provide patient education and instruction to patients, parents and guardians including but not limited to information on dental disease processes and the principles of oral health disease prevention and instructions on proper methods of oral health care that are appropriate to the patient’s age and needs.
  • Provide periodontal and preventative services appropriate to the age and needs of the patient including but not limited to root planning, curettage, periodontal charting, other diagnostic procedures including radiograpghs, coronal polishing, sealant placement, fluoride varnish, oral health education, and administer local anesthetic under the supervision of a staff dentist.
  • Responsible for sharpening and maintenance of instruments and equipment used in patient treatment.
  • Responsible for maintenance and cleaning of the dental unit at the end of each work day.
  • Responsible for restocking of supplies used in the operatory at the end of each work day.
  • Process digital radiographs and shall assist with performing oral examinations on recall patients if time and workload permit.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of a course of study in dental hygiene accredited by the American Dental Association as evidenced by a degree or certification.
  • A valid current and unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in a State of the United States of America.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • May be required to work after hours and weekend clinic to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
  • Shall maintain standards of personal hygiene and grooming such that his/her image as a physician is compatible with the expectations of the on-site supervisor.
  • Shall be required to develop familiarity and abide by current policies, procedures, by-laws, and regulation of the on-site clinical and medical staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to patients of the Native American/Alaska Native communities.

Estimated Salary/Wage

USD $47.09/Hr. Up to USD $55.00/Yr.
