Position: Anesthetist at Mt Edgecumbe Hospital
Provide anesthesia, airway management, and chronic pain management consultations. Evaluate patient health, develop anesthetic plans based on risk factors and surgical needs, and ensure patient safety. Independently determine anesthetic techniques, pharmaceuticals, and procedures, adjusting plans as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide scheduled clinical anesthesia services, including pre-anesthetic evaluations, administration of anesthetics, and post-anesthetic care.
Analyze complex medical data to inform anesthetic care.
Operate complex medical and life support equipment for anesthetized patients.
Participate in Medical Staff functions as requested.
Respond to emergencies requiring airway control.
Conduct educational programs on airway management, resuscitation, pharmacology, and anesthesia practices.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program or certification in Nursing Anesthesiology (prior to 1990).
Current unrestricted RN license in Alaska or another U.S. state; application for Alaska license required before start if applicable.
Licensure as a Nurse Anesthetist by the Alaska Board of Nursing or another state.
Certification by the National Board of Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS; preferred: ATLS, ALSO, NRP, STABLE.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
At least 4 years of clinical anesthesia experience post-training preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
Deep understanding of human physiology, pharmacology, and surgical stress responses.
Technical expertise with complex medical equipment.
Advanced respiratory evaluation skills.
Rapid recognition and response to patient condition changes.
Expertise in airway management and regional anesthesia.
Additional Abilities:
Maintain control in dynamic anesthesia scenarios.
Quickly evaluate and implement treatment in emergencies.
Work independently without supervision.
