Assist the Academic Scholarship Program Associate Director with planning and developing scholarship activities to recruit new undergraduate students to SIUC, to promote the University and to inform various populations about scholarship opportunities (parents, high school and college counselors, and university officials). This position assists with contacting prospective scholarship students and awarding scholarships. The University Scholarship Program awards more than 2,000 new student scholarships each year and renews more than 1,500 scholarships. These scholarships include: Dean's, Saluki Gold, Saluki Silver, Saluki Maroon, University Excellence, Chancellor's, Transfer Silver, Transfer Maroon, Dean's Transfer, Provost's, Transfer Achievement and PTK scholarships. In addition to the University Scholarship Program, 85 foundation scholarships are independently advertised and awarded based upon donor stipulations. Examples of Duties A. SIUC Academic Scholarship Program The Chancellor's Scholarship and University Excellence upgrades, as well as the Provost's and Transfer Achievement Scholarships require an on campus interview before selection. This position helps coordinate the application solicitation, finalists selection and notification for interview, selection and training of the 45 judges (30 faculty/staff members, and 15 current scholars), site and dining reservations, hotel blocks, college/department involvement and resource fair, and student volunteer schedule for each separate event.

B. University Scholarships This position assists with posting of University related scholarships that include all Collegiate tuition waivers, International Student scholarships, Marching Salukis scholarships, Minority Engineering scholarships, and Spirit Group scholarships.

This position is also responsible for community outreach and marketing of financial aid and scholarships. News releases are prepared and distributed to newspapers announcing the scholarship recipients each year. Scholarship presentations are done at SIUC Open Houses, high school award nights, community colleges, SIUC athletics, etc. Scholarship brochures, web site administration, and social media are also used in promotion of SIUC scholarships and outside scholarships.

C. Academic Works This position is responsible for the overall management of the Academic Works system, our online scholarship application manager and database. This database holds all the University's academic, college, and departmental scholarships, as well as external scholarships posted for our students. This position assists with utilization of Academic Works on the SIU campus and serves as the liaison among the SIU Foundation and the departments, overseeing that the verification needs are met on both sides. All system users are trained by this position to gain access to the database, including the SIU Foundation staff. Extended training is also conducted by this position as the system features change and expand each year.

D. External Relations Due to the different types of scholarships that are awarded, posted, and monitored in this office, this position must have a strong knowledge about SIUC's academic and financial programs, policies, procedures, services, and facilities. This position has BANNER update access to financial aid and inquiry access to student and accounts receivable screens. This position must be able to respond to inquiries from prospective students, parents, school counselors, continuing SIUC students and other university officials while providing complete, accurate and current information abouts SIUC's programs, policies, procedures, and services.

Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree in any field.

2. A total of two (2) years (24 months) of professional experience working at a higher education institution or work experience in a position that works with and/or provides service to higher education institutions; one of those two years of experience must be in student personnel management, higher education management, public relations, business, or closely related.*

(Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

About Civil Service Examination/Testing:

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
