As we prepare for the retirement of our long-time HR Director, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Human Resources Director to lead our HR function into its next chapter.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Director is a key member of the leadership team responsible for overseeing all aspects of HR operations, with a strong focus on compliance, benefits administration, retirement plan oversight, and payroll. This role ensures that the organization remains compliant with employment laws and regulations, manages competitive employee benefits, and provides accurate and timely payroll processing, while fostering a positive employee experience across the group.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Employee Relations

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook updates in coordination with external counsel, as needed.

Provide guidance to managers on employee relations, performance management, and documentation best practices.

Partner with external counsel as needed on compliance and employment matters.

Benefits Administration

In coordination with CFO, lead annual benefits renewal and manage relationships with benefit providers and brokers to ensure competitive, cost-effective plans.

Oversee administration of health, dental, vision, life, disability, and other employee benefit programs, including the open enrollment process.

Educate employees on available benefits and support enrollment and claim resolution.

Retirement Plan Oversight

Administer and oversee the company 401(k) plan, ensuring compliance with fiduciary responsibilities.

In coordination with CFO, coordinate with plan advisors, recordkeepers, and auditors on plan management and reporting.

Support employee education around retirement planning and investment options.

Leadership & Strategy

Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership.

Partner with department leaders to support workforce planning and organizational development.

Lead and mentor HR team members (if applicable) to ensure consistent, high-quality service.

Contribute to a positive, employee-focused culture aligned with the company’s values.

Participate in relevant HR/payroll seminars, webinars, and professional development trainings to stay current on best practices and evolving employment law.

Share health and wellness resources with employees on a regular basis (monthly/quarterly), promoting engagement with available programs and fostering a culture of well-being.

Payroll Management

In coordination with CFO, oversee accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.

Ensure payroll compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.

Partner with accounting/finance teams on payroll reconciliation and reporting.

Drive process improvements and automation to streamline payroll and HR functions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Strong knowledge of federal and New Hampshire employment laws and regulations.

Experience administering benefits and overseeing 401(k) or other retirement plans.

Payroll management experience (Paycom HRIS platform experience preferred).

Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) desired.

Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
