Job Description
McLeod Health Cheraw is seeking a night shift Hospitalist Physician Assistant!
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Physician Assistant required
Work Schedule/Hours: 7 on/7 off - 7pm to 7am
Job responsibilities include those listed in the competency document.
- Maintain a professional image and exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers, in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
- Practice evidence-based medicine and follow national quality measures for patient care, providing documentation when deviations are necessary.
- Admit unassigned adult (16+) patients presenting through the Emergency Department.
- Accept direct patient admits (16+) from community physicians per policies.
- Pre-op clearance for inpatient surgical cases.
- Consult with primary care providers and specialists as requested.
- Evaluate potential admissions upon request.
- Manage resources effectively such as medications and ancillaries.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary patient care conferences for utilization review and discharge planning, communicating plans to patients, families, and staff.
- Conduct patient and family care conferences for stays of five days or more or for complex discharge planning.
- Manage length of stay.
- Respond to resuscitation codes and be part of the Rapid Response Team during Day Shifts.
- Ensure timely and complete medical record documentation.
- Care for patients in the Swing Bed Unit and participate in related conferences.
- Assist in evaluating and recommending equipment and supplies for inpatient care.
- Provide value-oriented care, prioritize requests, and perform high-value evaluations and follow-ups.
- Follow hospital protocols and quality initiatives.
- Make appropriate referrals and communicate effectively concerning patient care, optimizing the value of consults.
- Model professional behavior and uphold the ethics of the medical staff.
- Work systemically to improve care delivery, recognizing patient care as a continuum and assisting in system improvements.
- Ensure proper communication during patient hand-offs, including treatment plans and core measures.
- Participate in routine medical staff activities and maintain active membership.
- Provide value-oriented sub-specialty consultations, responding promptly and minimizing unnecessary tests and therapies.
Qualifications/Training
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Active Physician Assistant License in South Carolina verified by NCCPA.
- BLS and ACLS Certification.
