Overview
Fox TV Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content. Responsibilities
Research and develop fresh story ideas into pitches and newsgathering for all news platforms. Respond to breaking news and verify information for television newscasts and digital platforms. Monitor news wires, police and fire scanners, and social media for breaking news. Work in a fast-paced environment; multi-task; be a problem solver and a strategic thinker. Assign photographers and reporters to news stories and manage logistics. Develop strong contacts with officials and sources to advance stories beyond a press release. Build relationships with Assignment Desks at Fox affiliates and coordinate breaking news coverage when necessary. Collaborate and share content with FOX Television Station units including FOX Weather, FOX Soul and FOX Crime. Stay on top of local, national, and global news; maintain strong social media skills; be technically savvy and computer literate. Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned. Qualifications
Four-year college degree with emphasis in Communications or Journalism preferred. At least two years of prior Assignment Desk Editor experience or Bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience. Ability to work flexible hours; overnights, early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays may be required. Excellent news judgment, strong sense of urgency in coverage decision-making, and a proactive and competitive approach to newsgathering. Energetic and effective communicator with the ability to develop strong contacts with officials and sources. Ability to work with Assignment Desks at Fox affiliates and coordinate breaking news coverage when necessary. Strong competitor mindset and ability to track what the competition is doing; stay informed on local, national, and world news. Strong social media skills; technically savvy and computer literate.
