Overview
President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
– Center for Fine Arts Education, Inc. (CFAE), an association management company (AMC) specializing in arts education associations. Hybrid Position (Florida-based, with a significant presence in Tallahassee) Starting Salary: $145,000 Role Overview
The President & CEO is the top executive leader of CFAE, reporting directly to the CFAE Board of Directors. CFAE is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Florida Music Education Association, developed to consolidate management services and provide advocacy and support for nonprofit fine arts education associations, organizations, and projects. The individual in this role serves as the Executive Director for the Florida Music Education Association and the Florida School Music Association, as well as the Board Consultant for the Florida Art Education Association. The CEO is accountable for the following duties as they apply to CFAE and its clients: Strategic Direction & Execution
– Develop, refine, and implement the organization’s long-term strategic plan in partnership with the Board, senior staff, and key stakeholders. Translate strategic goals into clear, measurable action plans and ensure timely delivery. Fiscal Stewardship
– Oversee budgets totaling
$2 million , directing annual budgeting, financial planning, audit processes, and resource allocation to keep the organizations financially healthy and mission-focused. Advocacy & Public Policy
– Champion arts education policy at local, state, and national levels. Build and sustain relationships with legislators, funders, media, and partner organizations. Program & Event Leadership
– Direct the design, development, and execution of association programs, professional learning initiatives, and large-scale conferences that advance mission and member value for CFAE’s clients. Board Governance
– Serve as Executive Director for the designated associations, facilitate board meetings, drive policy development, orient new board members, and ensure effective governance for CFAE clients. Human Capital Management
– Lead, mentor, and develop senior leaders; cultivate a diverse, inclusive, collaborative culture; oversee personnel policies, performance standards, hiring, and staff development. Operational Excellence
– Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; manage facilities, technology, and day to day operations to support program delivery. External Representation
– Act as the public face of CFAE and its clients, communicating transparently with members, donors, partners, and the broader community; steward public and private resources responsibly. The position is
exempt, full time , with variable hours and a hybrid work model. Ideal Candidate Profile
Required Attributes Education
– Bachelor’s degree in a related field Management Experience
– Minimum
7 years
of senior-level, upper-management experience with multiple direct reports, preferably in a not-for-profit or education setting. Leadership Acumen
– Proven transformational leadership; ability to inspire, motivate, and guide diverse teams and boards. Financial Expertise
– Demonstrated budget management of
$2 million or more , with strong fiscal planning and oversight skills. Communication & Diplomacy
– Exceptional public speaking, interpersonal, and diplomatic abilities; skilled at building rapport and navigating diverse stakeholder needs. Commitment to Arts Education
– Understanding of the Florida education and political climate; experience in music and arts education is highly valued. Preferred Attributes Advanced Degree
– A graduate degree in a related field is preferred. Professional Certification
– Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification—or a clear commitment to obtaining it. Policy & Advocacy Experience
– Demonstrated experience in education policy, especially within Florida and the arts sector, and a track record of successful advocacy. Sector Experience
– Background in the not-for-profit or government fields, particularly in Florida with arts education organizations. Content Knowledge
– Articulated working knowledge of music and arts education. Relationship Building
– Proven ability to cultivate and maintain partnerships with donors, members, funders, and community stakeholders. Strategic Planning & Project Management
