Overview GAI Consultants is looking for an Assistant Engineering Director for Civil Engineering. Your responsibilities in this position will include leading business development initiatives, and managing both civil engineering and multi-discipline projects and staff within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector, which is in GAI’s Power Business Unit. The client focus of the Power Business Unit includes Power, Energy and Industrial clients.

Essential Duties

Secure a teaming agreement for a specific project and a partnership with a Prime Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Contractor within 18 months and/or a Master Services Agreement (MSA) with a client in the Power, Energy or Industrial market within two years.

Secure enough new work to support four full-time equivalent (FTEs) staff members (and/or $1,000,000 in revenue) within 18 months.

Function as a seller / doer

Identify, pursue, and successfully secure new business opportunities

Lead and manage projects

Technically lead engineering tasks in the area of expertise

Manage staff and/or project teams

Experience Required

20 years: Civil Engineering and Engineering Sales experience

Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships

Demonstrated sales experience in acquiring new clients

Demonstrated success in group and project management, staff growth and development, client development, and directing the concurrent execution of multiple complex projects and tasks

Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management skills and concepts such as developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, calculating profit, etc.

Demonstrated mastery of fundamental project management skills and use of PM advanced techniques and practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy

Demonstrated business acumen and understanding of financial statements as they apply to the business

Willingness to learn GAI-specific project management procedures and requirements

Demonstrates in-depth understanding of software required to perform the duties described here, including Microsoft Office Suite applications and software, CAD programs, document management systems, database software, HR Systems, internet software, and reporting tools related to databases and client-specific software

Experience managing technical staff and performing duties such as hiring, budgeting, employee performance, and compensation reviews, creating group and department goals

Detailed understanding of civil engineering concepts and principles. Effective leadership skills

Motivated, focused, and hard-working

Effective communication and technical writing skills

Experience Preferred

Significant experience serving Power, Energy and/or Industrial clients

Travel Requirements

25%, Regional travel to client meetings, site visits, and other GAI offices

Minimum Years of Experience

20+

Education

Engineering, master’s degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred

Certification / Licensure

Professional Engineer (License, reciprocity in multiple states)

Technical Responsibilities

Performs advisory or consulting work for the organization across broad project areas or within a specialized area with innovative/complex aspects

Assesses practices and requirements to achieve sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective

Project and Task Management

Oversees multiple large or multi-discipline project teams

Develops projects needed for accomplishing the objectives of the practice

Evaluates project management plans for complex engineering projects

Develops risk mitigation plans to address project risks

Evaluates effectiveness of leaders and teams

May manage projects up to $250,000 in yearly value, without GAI President’s approval, but is a small component of overall work

Management Responsibility

Receives general administrative direction

Develops organizational strategy for staff development through mentored experience, continuing education, and self-development

Communication Skills

Negotiates critical and controversial issues with leadership

Represents the organization at important functions and conferences

Salaried Rate Pay Range: $130,000-$180,000

Pay is based on applicant’s ability / experience and will be rated accordingly.
