Non-Exempt Position Summary: Oversees and ensures the provision of spiritual care to residents, their loved ones and staff. Oversees and ensures provision of education and training as appropriate for the institution. Models and assists in maintaining a Christian-based stance within The Sarah Community. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Ensures the delivery of a program of spiritual care to residents, their loved ones and staff of all faith traditions. 2. Develops and delivers special prayer services and prayer leadership programs and resources. 3. Develops and provides services to meet the spiritual and /or religious needs of residents, families and employees of all faith traditions. 4. Provides spiritual care for residents, including overseeing spiritual care volunteers. Coordinates and innovates care as needed to meet ongoing cultural and diverse needs. 5. Coordinates spiritual care programs and activities with other departments and encourages participation in special programs and speakers. 6. Acts as referral source for other departments when residents of concern are identified and spiritual care if requested. 7. Participates in Care Plan Meetings in order to develop optimum plan of care for resident. 8. Makes referrals to clergy of residents’ choice for particular sacramental needs when indicated. 9. Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings and in-service programs. Fulfills yearly education requirements as stated by policy. 10. Maintains professional attitude with residents, visitors and staff while assuring confidentiality. 11. Maintains priority in coordinating spiritual ministry for those who are dying and providing guidance for funeral preparations. 12. Works collaboratively with Director of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care Team. 13. Provides assurance and support in times of uncertainty and crisis 14. Works closely with Director of Mission Integration and assists or covers duties when needed, including conducting a Catholic Communion Service Essential Staff functions: 1. Understands the importance of customer service and practices resident/relative satisfaction techniques. 2. Follows Residents’ rights policies and maintains residents’ confidentiality. 3. Follows facility policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, infection control, safety and disaster preparedness. 4. Complies with all federal, state and local regulations as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Program Manual. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Demonstrate ability to articulate Catholic identity, mission and values, including knowledge of the

Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. 2. Experience working with an aging population. Experience working in spiritual care. 3. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Very good computer skills needed in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher or willing to learn Publisher. Skills for computer charting are essential. 4. Must be well organized, possess well-developed skills for interpersonal relations and working as part of a team. Enjoys and desires frequent interaction with people. Education, Certification, Licenses Necessary A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required in Theology, Behavioral Sciences, Ministry or related field, plus 1 unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) with NACC or APC. Master’s degree is preferred in Health Care Ministry, Theology, Christian Spirituality, Pastoral Counseling, or Pastoral Studies and certification in NACC or APC (any equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.]
