POSITION: Mobile Overnight Counselor

SCHEDULE: Sunday – Thursday; 11pm – 7:30am

PAYS: $22.41 per hour. For hours worked between 10:45pm-7:15am, an additional $2.00/hour.

RETENTION PAYMENTS: A total retention payment of $3,000.00, with $1,000.00 payable at 12 months and $2,000.00 at 24 months.

LOCATION: 35 Tuttle Street, Dorchester, MA, 02125; responding to other sites as needed.

Summary

The Mobile Overnight Counselor is assigned on a nightly basis to supportive housing locations with the greatest need for overnight staff due to health or behavioral challenges. The role involves responding as part of the on-call emergency response team, providing an awake night presence, and performing regular rounds and wellness checks. The counselor will uphold tenants’ rights, monitor occupancy agreements and house rules, set limits when appropriate, and provide crisis intervention as necessary.

The position contributes to the physical upkeep of the building by noting and addressing housekeeping or maintenance issues, coordinating with appropriate staff, and assisting with organizing required resources and tools at each building. Occasional daytime availability is required for trainings, court proceedings, meetings, and other obligations. The person will be an important member of a team dedicated to helping tenants achieve the highest possible quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an awake overnight presence with regular rounds and tenant wellness checks.
  • Respond to emergencies as part of the on-call team and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Uphold tenants’ rights and ensure occupancy agreement and house rule compliance; set limits when appropriate.
  • Observe and report housekeeping, maintenance, and safety issues; coordinate with appropriate staff to resolve issues.
  • Organize and maintain required resources and tools at each building.
  • Remain available for occasional daytime trainings, court proceedings, meetings, and other obligations.

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Required: High School diploma or GED
  • Required: Valid MA driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
  • Required: Computer literacy (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Knowledge/Experience

Required

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • 6+ months experience working with people who have been homeless and/or with substance use disorder and/or mental health challenges

Preferred

  • Knowledge of crisis-intervention techniques; CPR/First Aid certification
  • Experience providing detailed documentation
  • Experience working with people who have been homeless
