Overview

Hardware Development Engineer, Bespoke Solutions at AWS. Architect and lead the development of next-generation cloud infrastructure hardware, focusing on complex PCB designs and FPGA SoC integration. Location: Arlington, VA in AWS dedicated product development lab. The candidate must obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph, with sponsorship for commensurate clearances for AWS federal work where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and lead development of complex PCB designs incorporating FPGA SoCs
• Drive system-level hardware architecture decisions and technical requirements
• Lead new product introduction (NPI) processes with contract manufacturers
• Develop and validate high-speed digital and mixed-signal circuits
• Ensure designs meet EMI/EMC compliance, thermal, and signal integrity requirements
• Partner with FPGA/firmware teams to define hardware interfaces and requirements
• Lead design reviews and drive technical consensus across multiple teams
• Mentor junior engineers and establish hardware engineering best practices

A day in the life

You will work with a cross-functional team of hardware, software, and FPGA engineers in our dedicated product development lab. Your day might include architecting new hardware solutions, reviewing PCB designs, collaborating with contract manufacturers, debugging prototypes, or mentoring team members. You\'ll partner closely with product managers to define requirements, work with FPGA engineers to optimize hardware interfaces, and engage with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production ramp-up.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 2+ years of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and repair
- Experience in motherboard and PCB design, including schematic capture, stackup, and layout
- Experience with FPGA SoC hardware integration, hardware validation and debugging

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above

Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. Base pay ranges from $86,900/year to $185,000/year, depending on location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
