Job Description:

Jefferson Community College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Lecturer of Cybersecurity and Computer Science to join the STEM, Health Professions, and Business Division. The successful candidate will support existing programs in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Computer Information Technology, and will play a key role in developing a new academic program in Cybersecurity. This position offers the opportunity for leadership within the department and requires a commitment to student success, academic excellence, and community engagement. Faculty are expected to contribute to the College\'s Strategic Plan and work collaboratively with colleagues and institutional leadership.

The Lecturer of Cybersecurity and Computer Science will teach a range of courses covering key topics such as network security, cryptography, cloud security, digital forensics, and cybersecurity frameworks, including ISO, NIST, COBIT, and CIS. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and revising curricula and syllabi that align with current industry standards, while fostering a dynamic, learner-centered classroom environment that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The instructor will be actively involved in assessing student learning outcomes at both the course and program levels, using data to inform continuous improvement and ensure alignment with institutional goals and general education standards.

In addition to teaching, the lecturer will lead the development of a new academic program in Cybersecurity, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Outreach efforts will include creating and expanding local partnerships that establish new entry points and support student readiness, promoting the program to local high schools and the surrounding military community, and developing and hosting a cybersecurity hackathon to support recruitment.

The faculty role also involves advising students on academic and career pathways, cultivating internship and job placement opportunities through partnerships with industry, and maintaining strong relationships with the community and professional organizations. The instructor will utilize instructional technologies such as D2L Brightspace and NetLab+ virtual lab environment, and will be responsible for selecting appropriate software, equipment, and materials to enhance student learning and engagement.

Responsibilities

Teach a range of cybersecurity and computer science courses, including topics such as network security, cryptography, cloud security, digital forensics, and cybersecurity frameworks (ISO, NIST, COBIT, CIS). Develop and revise curricula and syllabi to align with current industry standards. Foster a dynamic, learner-centered classroom environment and assess student learning outcomes at course and program levels.

Lead the development of a new academic program in Cybersecurity, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Engage in outreach to local high schools and the military community; develop and host events (e.g., cybersecurity hackathon) to support recruitment.

Advise students on academic and career pathways; create internship and job placement opportunities through industry partnerships; maintain relationships with the community and professional organizations. Utilize instructional technologies (D2L Brightspace, NetLab+) and select appropriate software, equipment, and materials.

Requirements

Required: Bachelor\'s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field, three (3) years of industry experience, and evidence of successful teaching experience. Candidates with a Master\'s degree or higher may be appointed at the rank of Instructor.

Applicants must interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, foster inclusion, and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

Preferred: Master\'s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field. Experience in college teaching and/or training, and five (5) years of industry experience. Security+, CISSP, CISM, CISA industry certifications preferred.

In-depth knowledge of:

  • Network administration, network infrastructure
  • Network security design principles
  • Implementation and management of information security systems and practices

Functional knowledge of:

  • Network design and architecture
  • Information systems design and architecture
  • Virtualization, including cloud technologies

Advertised Salary: $55,000-$65,000/yr. for well-qualified individuals. Salary is determined based upon experience and education in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement as well as internal equity.
