Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Center Director, group fitness instructors will maintain a professional, respectful, and positive atmosphere for our members, guests, and staff while promoting member wellness and helping patrons reach their fitness goals.
Responsibilities
- Teach group fitness classes.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with members, guests, and staff.
- Provide high-quality recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents, and emergencies.
- Maintain and practice a safe exercise and work environment for members and staff by keeping a neat, clean, and pleasant environment in our group fitness areas.
- Stay current on fitness concepts and ideas.

Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of experience actively leading successful group exercise classes.
- Current nationally accredited group exercise certification (e.g., AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NETA) if necessary.
- Instructors teaching licensed/branded formats (e.g., Zumba, Yoga, Spinning) must also be trained and licensed to teach those specific formats.
- Ability to work well with diverse group members, guests, and staff.
- General knowledge of the Edwardsville YMCA and its mission.
- CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of the community, social, and economic segments of the community.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
