Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
- Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years’ security, police or military experience
- Work experience on a University Campus.
Position Summary
The Security Guard assists in protecting persons and property in and around residential communities housing more than 9,000 residents. Responsibilities include addressing policy violations, monitoring building security and safety hazards, conducting patrols, interacting professionally with students and staff, maintaining accurate paperwork, and providing coverage during holidays, breaks, and special events as needed. The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and a commitment to high-quality work.

Write clear and accurate shift and incident reports; remain calm and confident in stressful situations; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work effectively with all levels of staff; learn security systems and body camera operation; learn the residential buildings and surrounding grounds.

- Walk 5 miles or more during a shift.
- Visual acuity to identify security or safety issues during night hours.
- Verbally communicate and hear sounds of distress.
- Safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
- Occasionally perform outdoor duties in hot or cold weather.

Duties/Responsibilities
Foot Patrols
Conduct foot patrols around the assigned residential community, check buildings and grounds, watch for life safety issues, examine doors/windows/gates to ensure security, provide walking escorts, and cover during holidays, breaks, and special events.

Interact with students and staff professionally, wear body-worn camera during incidents, report policy violations, and assist UGA Police Officers as directed.
