*Job Responsibilities:*
* Performs and/or provides scrub assistance during procedures that reflect an awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.
* Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care to include: patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of the operative site, updating physician preference card, care of operative specimens, and room turnover.
* Identifies factors relative to the patient's age and developmental stage that must be considered during the surgical procedure.
* Assists with pulling cases and checks case carts for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment, and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.
* Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on the scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
* Follows policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up the back table, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse.
* Exercises care in the operation and use of instruments/equipment/ and reports/follow the appropriate procedure for broken items.
* Follows OSHA and hospital infection control policies at all times.
* May perform additional duties as assigned.
*Job Requirements:*
* *Working Hours:* Monday-Friday 7-330pm or 3 12's @ 7-730pm
* *Education: *High School diploma or equivalent
* *Years of Experience: *Preferred: Recent Hospital experience and/or previous practice experience.
* *Certification: *Basic Life Support-American Heart Association
* *License: *VirginiaRegistered Surgical Technologist
