The Department of Philosophy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, invites applications for the James B. and Grace J. Nelson Professorship in Philosophy, beginning August 25, 2026. This is a university year,tenure-track appointment and will be at the level of professor with tenure. For this endowedposition, we are seeking an accomplished scholar of ethics, including normative ethics, metaethics, applied ethics and/or moral psychology. The successful candidate for this position must have a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service.
The normal teaching load for research-active faculty in LSA is four courses per academicyear. Areas of teaching responsibility include introductory and upper-division undergraduate classes and graduate seminars.
