The SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database instances, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. The role involves database administration, backup and recovery, query optimization, and troubleshooting database performance issues. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SQL Server, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms, and scripting languages.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Create and configure new Microsoft SQL Server instances, including AlwaysOn availability groups and failover clustering.
  2. Install and maintain PostgreSQL database instances on Linux/Unix or Windows servers.
  3. Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning in coordination with IT teams.
  4. Design, implement, and optimize SQL queries, T-SQL scripts, and stored procedures.
  5. Configure and maintain SQL Server security controls.
  6. Perform database migrations, server updates, and performance tuning.
  7. Troubleshoot application performance issues and database sluggishness.
  8. Implement PostgreSQL replication strategies such as streaming replication and logical replication.
  9. Install and configure PostgreSQL extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_partman, pg_stat_statements).
  10. Develop and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs and maintenance plans.
  11. Proactively monitor SQL Server maintenance tasks and address failed processes.
  12. Create documentation and training materials for routine database administration activities.
  13. Integrate SQL Server with corporate applications.
  14. Support big data ETL processes into SQL Server and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports.
Required Qualifications:
  1. 10+ years of experience with SQL Server database administration.
  2. 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL database management.
  3. Extensive knowledge of SQL and SQL Server tools.
  4. Experience in database performance optimization, development, and maintenance.
  5. In-depth understanding of database security, backup, recovery, and performance monitoring.
  6. Familiarity with relational and dimensional data modeling.
  7. Strong experience in database design, implementation, and conversion.
  8. Proficiency in PowerShell and Unix shell scripting.
  9. Experience with SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS.
  10. Strong mathematics and statistical skills.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server infrastructures.
  13. Hands-on experience with cloud services such as AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  14. Expertise in PostgreSQL administration, replication, clustering, and failover mechanisms.
  15. Experience with PostgreSQL monitoring tools like pgAdmin, Barman, PEM, and REPMGR.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience with PostgreSQL extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_partman).
  2. Familiarity with cloud database solutions like AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, or Azure PostgreSQL.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
