Position OverviewThis position is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of a designated nursing department under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, providing both clinical and administrative leadership and expertise. The role supports the Nurse Manager in ensuring regulatory readiness, quality outcomes, and operational excellence.
The position contributes to the department’s strategic planning efforts and promotes alignment with organizational goals through implementation of evidence-based care models, championing best practices, and leading change initiatives. Additionally, the role fosters professional growth and engagement by mentoring staff, encouraging ongoing education and certification, and participating in the organization’s shared governance structure. Active involvement in professional organizations is encouraged to support the advancement of nursing practice at local, regional, and national levels.

$49.24 - $73.86 per hour, depending on experience
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
Provides supervision to direct reports as assigned by the Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing
Completes annual performance appraisals, including the establishment of individual development goals
Provides leadership support during off-shifts, ensuring coverage and cross-over across all shifts
Mentors staff in conflict resolution and promotes a culture of professional communication
Offers both formal and informal feedback to support team learning and development
Operational & Clinical Oversight
Assists the Nurse Manager with:
Unit-level onboarding processes
Annual credentialing compliance
Monitoring and achieving quality outcomes
Regulatory readiness and ongoing survey preparedness
Developing care delivery models that promote safe, evidence-based, equitable care
Change Management & Innovation
Acts as a change advocate by guiding staff through transitions and helping to foster acceptance and adaptation
Champions the adoption of best practices, new processes, and initiatives at both the unit and organizational levels
Strategic Alignment & Professional Practice
Supports the Nurse Manager in aligning unit goals with broader departmental and organizational objectives
Supports, promotes, and role models standards of nursing and leadership professional practice
Encourages staff engagement in professional development, continuing education, and certification
Contributes to the department’s professional growth by participating in shared governance at both the unit and organizational levels
Professional Engagement & Advocacy
Contributes to the advancement of the nursing profession through active involvement in professional organizations at the local, regional, or national level
Position Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Up to three (3) years of Nursing experience
Up to three (3) years of directly related experience
Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred
License and/or Certification
Current New York State Registered Nurse License
