About the Role: The Medical Assistant - Neurology plays a critical role in supporting neurologists and clinical staff within a busy Medical Office Building (MOB) setting. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow by preparing patients for neurological examinations, collecting vital signs, and documenting medical histories accurately. The role demands close collaboration with healthcare providers to facilitate diagnostic testing and treatment plans specific to neurological conditions. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will manage administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and coordinating communication between patients and the neurology care team. Ultimately, this position contributes to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients with neurological disorders, enhancing their overall healthcare experience. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is required. Minimum of 1 year experience working in a clinical healthcare setting, preferably in neurology or a related specialty. Basic knowledge of neurological terminology, diagnostic procedures, and patient care protocols. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and standard office software. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working specifically in a neurology practice or department. Additional certifications such as phlebotomy or EKG technician credentials. Familiarity with insurance billing and coding related to neurology services. Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient education and counseling. Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations. Responsibilities: Prepare patients for neurological examinations by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and explaining procedures. Assist neurologists during patient exams by handling equipment, documenting findings, and ensuring patient comfort. Coordinate and schedule diagnostic tests such as EEGs, EMGs, and MRIs, ensuring timely communication of results. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards. Manage front desk duties including appointment scheduling, patient check-in/check-out, and insurance verification. Educate patients on medication instructions, follow-up care, and neurological condition management as directed by providers. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support comprehensive neurological care and optimize patient outcomes. Skills: The Medical Assistant will utilize clinical skills daily to accurately collect patient data, perform basic neurological assessments, and assist providers during examinations. Strong organizational skills are essential for managing appointment schedules, coordinating diagnostic tests, and maintaining meticulous patient records. Effective communication skills enable the assistant to educate patients clearly about their care plans and to collaborate seamlessly with the neurology care team. Proficiency with electronic health record systems ensures efficient documentation and compliance with healthcare regulations.
