HACCP Technician
Job Summary:
Ensure compliance in the areas of food safety, regulatory and company policies. Manage HACCP/Food Safety programs, associated documents, reports, and databases. Enforces food safety and audits. Serve as USDA liaison and stay updated on all USDA regulations. Facilitate Food Safety Training for new/current food safety system monitors and verifiers. Typical hours: 10am-7pm.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all company and plant quality policies, including but not limited to USDA and state regulations, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) program, Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Maintain and review HACCP, SSOP, GMP records and supporting documentation.
- Review and make necessary changes to HACCP, SSOP, and GMP plans to ensure they are readily available to USDA inspectors.
- Uphold HACCP Corrective Actions. Track corrective action logs and report to management.
- Investigate and identify possible Critical Control Points along with HACCP / Food Safety Team.
- Conduct periodic audits of the recordkeeping files to ensure compliance with company and regulatory policies.
- Communicate Food Safety requirements to requesting regulatory agencies.
- Maintain HACCP Plan in an up-to-date status.
- Collect quality data for food safety; generate reports.
Internal Auditor
- Conduct thorough internal audits to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Coordinate internal audit schedules and, through corrective action reports, communicate non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Prepare information for and assist with all facility audits (3rd party, customer).
Food Safety Training
- Conduct Food Safety Training for new hires and provide orientation materials as needed.
- Train and mentor new team members on food safety monitoring and verification techniques.
- Assist in ensuring new team members acquire the skills, knowledge, and behaviors to become productive members of our team.
- Ensure new team members understand the correct recordkeeping requirements and expectations of their role.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Solid knowledge of poultry/meat manufacturing processes and related equipment.
- Solid knowledge of federal and state regulations relevant to the poultry/meat processing industry.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the Butterball organization.
- Solid computer knowledge to include creating and modifying files in a word processor, spreadsheet program, Visio for flowcharts and diagrams, and Access database programs.
Education & Experience
- B.S. degree preferred. Concentration in food/animal science, biology, or chemistry is preferred; other 4-year degreed related field may be considered.
- HACCP certification from an accredited association is preferred.
- Experience in Global Food Safety Initiative audits is preferred.
