Overview

The Executive Director shall oversee the management of the business and affairs of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC), in accordance with the strategic plan, mission and objectives adopted and approved by the Board. The Executive Director shall steer programming, fund development and branding in accordance with projected timelines and availability of resources required to achieve the Council’s strategic goals. Responsibilities

Programming & Civic Engagement: Facilitate the development of programming by board committees that is consistent with the Council’s mission and vision while engaging member organizations. Implement performance measurements that assess programming efficiency and relevance. Work with the interfaith committee to establish good relations with the leadership of Catholic, Lutheran, LDS, Presbyterian, Methodist, and appropriate Jewish groups. Serve as ex-officio of the committees (membership, civic engagement, communications, by-laws, & interfaith). Facilitate the development of common interest projects that engage members such as security, gun violence, youth skill development, feeding the hungry, etc. Assess other needs like youth services, teachers training, arbitration, best practices white papers and templates. Fundraising & Community Relations: Collaborate with the board to develop a network of donors with a fund development strategy that encompasses donor research, branding, marketing, and one-on-one contact. Work with staff to collect membership dues promptly. Expand revenue sources, including expansion of grants and awards from government agencies and private foundations. Engage member organizations through the Council’s programming and offered resources. Build relationships with member organizations and their committees. Develop strategic alliances with organizations aligned with the Council’s mission and vision. Demonstrate the benefit of membership by establishing practices such as group wholesale buying, property insurance, janitorial & office supplies, equipment, and other services. Work with the membership committee to increase membership. Work with the treasurer to achieve fiscal management of the operations and programming of the Council. Establish and maintain good contacts with elected officials. Enhance the Council’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professionals, civic, and private organizations. Communications & Media Relations: Refine all aspects of communications from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger CIOGC brand. Market projects, events, workshops, etc. that effectively engage intended audiences in collaboration with marketing and communications team. Represent the Council’s mission through various media, marketing, and public relations platforms. Portray an accurate and positive image of Islam and of Muslims, locally and statewide. Serve as the Council’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the public. Implement a communication strategy that advances engagement with key stakeholders and enhances the branding and image of the Council. Qualifications

7-10 years of non-profit management experience, especially in a leadership role. Master’s degree in business, social services, or a related field to Non-profit or profit management required. Should have project management experience. Expertise in legal matters helpful. Exceptional organizational skills are a must. Strong written and verbal communication skills. An entrepreneurial work ethic and a desire to “get the job done”. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint). Knowledge of Salesforce preferred. Interest and commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations. Knowledge of computer support and operations preferred. Benefits
