Treatment, Storage & Disposal Facilities Compliance Inspector (Environmental Specialist 3, 4, or 5)
within the Nuclear Waste Program. Location: Richland Field Office in Richland, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Schedule: This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options. You will work in the field when conducting field surveys. You may telework most of your office time with occasional in-person meetings and activities. Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change. Depending on your experience, you may begin as an Environmental Specialist 3, 4, or 5. If you start at ES3 or ES4, you will have the chance to advance to ES5 within a specified time period. You will help ensure the safe management of nuclear waste and protect the environment statewide. As a Nuclear Waste Program expert, you will inspect facilities undergoing closure or post-closure monitoring to help ensure public health and safety. What you will do Serve as program expert for Hanford closure/post-closure TSDFs (Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities). Provide guidance on leading inspections for groundwater monitoring during closure and post-closure. Develop inspection scope by analyzing facility compliance history, reviewing permit conditions, and consulting with project staff. Conduct field inspections, including briefing, facility walkthroughs, interviews, and records review. Develop and prepare final inspection reports using standardized processes. Follow up on observations and violations by engaging with permittees until issues are resolved or enforcement is recommended (and support enforcement as directed). This position offers an in-training plan and may be filled at ES3, ES4, or ES5. If you qualify at ES3 or ES4, you will progress to ES5 within a set time period. — Environmental work or related to the position, including one or more of: Technical Environmental Experience — understanding State or Federal Regulations; ability to follow policies and objectives. Experience must include demonstrated competence in problem-solving, setting priorities, organizing information, and following procedures. Education
— Degree in environmental, physical, or natural sciences (or related interdisciplinary studies) qualifies. Examples of how to qualify: 6 years of experience. 5 years of experience + 30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter college credits. 4 years of experience + 60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter college credits (Associate’s degree). 3 years of experience + 90-119 semester or 135-179 quarter college credits. 2 years of experience + Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree or higher. At Environmental Specialist 4 level (In-Training) Pay Range 59, $5,666 - $7,622 monthly Total years of experience and education combined: nine (9) Experience

Must meet US DOE requirements to obtain and maintain a Hanford Site badge. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must complete HAZWOPER training within six months, and annual 8-hour refresher. Desired Qualifications Prior experience regulating or working at a hazardous waste TSDF is desirable.
