Music Director & Accompanist for Mean Girls (High School Version) at Glencoe Junior High Project in Glencoe, IL The Glencoe Junior High Project (GJHP), a 50+ year-old parent-led, nonprofit organization, is currently seeking an experienced candidate to serve as Music/Vocal Director and Accompanist for its Spring GJHP Musical: Mean Girls (High School Version). The GJHP Musical is a no-cut program featuring 40-50 Glencoe 6th-8th graders. This is one of the largest productions in the area, with a professional creative team providing an experience like those at New Trier High School, including exciting dances, awesome harmonies, great costumes, and a live band. The proscenium-style theater (capacity over 700) is transformed with a large set and professional lights & sound.
Roles and Responsibilities
Teaching all vocal music and accompanying rehearsals and performances of the GJHP production of Mean Girls, working collaboratively with the Director and GJHP production team.
Collaborate with Director and GJHP producers to help lead and accompany an Audition Workshop, Auditions/Callbacks, and work with Director to determine Callback and Cast Lists.
Provide input as needed to Director to develop the production plan and schedule.
Attend all Rehearsals, Performances and Meetings as needed.
Important dates are as follows:
Audition Workshop: Wednesday, December 2, 3:30pm-6pm
Auditions & Callbacks: December 8, 9, 11 & 12, 3:30pm-7pm
Rehearsals: Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 3:30pm-5:45pm, January 7-April 23 (later in April)
Some flexibility for your schedule / previous conflicts.
No Rehearsals on January 19, February 26, March 5, or March 30-April 6 (Spring Break).
Weekend Tech Rehearsals & Sitzprobe: April 11, 25 & 26 (Times TBD)
Final Dress / Tech Rehearsals: Monday, April 27 – Wednesday, April 29, 3:30pm-8pm
Performances: April 30 – May 3, 2026 (Thurs @ 7pm, Fri @ 7pm, Sat @ 3pm, Sun @ 3pm), Your Call Time will be approximately 90 minutes prior
Abstain from doing paid, private teaching of GJHP Mean Girls participants during casting and production
Cultivate positive relationships with production team, school personnel, students, parents and volunteers
Recruit and hire musicians to perform in a pit band for tech week and performances (an additional stipend will be provided from GJHP to compensate the band).
Recruit and suggest hiring other contracted employees as needed.
Requirements
Demonstrated ability to teach vocal music and accompany full-length musicals (performance or accompaniment samples will be requested)
Ability to recruit, lead and direct a small pit band
Experience working in an educational setting (preferably with middle school students)
Excellent leadership and team building skills
High energy and flexible in a fast-paced environment
Positive attitude, common sense, and sound judgment
Sincere desire to be a positive role model for young artists
Advanced training in music or education preferred (or comparable experience – minimum of 3 years).
Chosen candidate may need to submit to fingerprinting/background check (if required by District).
Stipend contingent upon credentials and experience (estimated range from $5,000 to $6,000).
